Yikes, DK making huge cuts the last few hours! But it looks like he's going to come up just short in his upset bid, so the Kratos over Donkey result has been applied. Here's how that has changed the look up top:

I was shocked to my very core when I finished entering the brackets and saw what an overwhelming favorite we'd made Nightmare. Here's a guy who failed to make the bracket time and again, even with the whole B8 rally behind him, from a fighting game not named Street Fighter II, who's going to get his casual support sucked away by the casual vote black hole named Solid Snake. While on the other hand you have Vyse, the man the fodder line was named after. Sure, he's fallen some from his old 20%ish days, but this format figures to showcase his fanbase pretty well.

Of course we've now seen that fighter fans are apparently a bit more loyal than I gave them credit for... but as I see it, this is still Vyse's match to lose.

The difference between the Tales characters and Vyse is that Vyse's main opponent will be a Soul Calibur fighter, and his match pic will be so small that his big sword won't fit in it. Also Solid Snake almost always takes the badass vote, so Nightmare has less to work with.

2002 we lost our last perfect early in Round 2, 2003 I don't know, 2004 we lost our last perfect on Cloud/Sephiroth in round 4, I believe, 2005 we lost our last 4 perfects on Ocelot/Pac-Man (Magus/Knux eliminated most perfects), 2006 I don't know. The closest we've ever had to a perfect bracket in a full length contest is 191/192 in 2004.

Next round, I'd be more worried about Lara beating Sora than Sora beating either Squall or Aeris. That's just the craziest consensus pick in the whole bracket in my opinion. Sora's percentage will be destroyed by those two.

Haven't really noticed how well the gurus here are doing compared to everyone else on site, haven't checked the stats much. I'm in a tie for 500th or so on the whole site (top 1.8%), yet I'm tied for 91st in the guru (JUST top half). I thought I was having a shocker based on guru results, but I'm still beating over 98% of the other brackets.

I'd like to say keep up the good work, but I don't mean that. About time you all got some wrong which I manage to get right!

Well ya gotta figure a good 1/5th (at least) of the casuals didn't even know how to fill the bracket out right.

You have Gordon>Ike while capatillistpiglet has Gordon>Duke. And you're eliminated if you lose 1 point to him (before this match you were down 4 points and could make up 4 with Midna next round).

Gordon>Duke would give cp 4 points and you 2 points, so you'd be eliminated. Duke>Ike would give cp 1 point and you 2 points, so you'd stay alive.

The result is Duke>Gordon though. So cp will get 2 points and you'll get 1.


So guess teens and Jecht are eliminated. Zylo and captaincanadian survive. No brackets on the line tomorrow as far as I can tell.

Yeah, pretty awesome to see our battle for the top of the Guru ranks being mimicked pretty much exactly out on the Top 50; we've certainly never been far enough out ahead of the madding crowd for that to have ever happened before. I'm guessing that would work backwards as well. If Transience gets all these round upsets correct, while I get Ryu wrong next round, I'll be out. But as long as I get at least Ryu, I'll be alive until Leon's match. And unless all of transience's upsets fail him while all mine come true, he's also alive until Leon. Looking at the list, I think we're both safe until then. =)

I mean, I know I have a lot riding on Sora, but....

I just keep falling back farther and farther, and today is a big blow, not necessarily for this match, but for next round. I was counting on Magus and Peach being in the poll with Mario and Sephiroth, so I put Mario > Sephiroth thinking that Magus would take much more away from Seph than Peach would Mario. But now that Magus is out of the picture and is replaced by Big Boss, who's only connection is Sony, and Fox is in there to be a much bigger SFF drain to Mario, there is absolutely no chance in hell of that upset happening now.

Is there any chance I could still win assuming I miss that match? And also assuming I get half-points at best on my Donkey Kong > Kratos this round? I'm already facing a big uphill battle, and those are a lot of points that I'm all but guaranteed missing, and most are probably getting them.

Well now, that was really something. First Bidoof pulled off the one of the most shocking first hours in Contest history, and I was laughing my head off watching it all the while. Ever since then he's switched gears and started pulling off one of the most epic collapses in Contest history, and I've also enjoyed watching that happen in about equal measure.

Well, he only picked 14 upsets through the whole Contest... only 8 Gurus were closer to picking a Cookie Cutter bracket than Moltar, so yes, his bracket is quite close to many others. The other thing to consider is how front-loaded those upsets he took were- they're nearly all in the first/second round, and since he's already come out on top for most of them, not only are people well behind him, it's also often impossible for them to make up that ground in the later rounds.
