* 2011 Rivals Guru Rankings, Stats, and Eliminations! [Part 1] *
Good news, everyone! The Guru site is now 100% up to date and ready to rock! http://thengamer.com/guru/ First off, a big round of applause for Angie, Menji, jose, and Colegreen, our tireless workers who helped me enter our brackets this season. All in all we gathered an impressive 220+ entrants for this season- a little down from our record of 250 for Game of the Decade, but still a great number considering the subject matter! As for the features on the site, you're probably used to most of them by now, but here's a brief overview in case you want to refresh. * click any user's name anywhere on the site to see their full bracket * you can re-sort the main page by score (default), TB, risks, their pick in the current match, Dead/Alive status, or alphabetically (click the headers to do this) * currently "Today's Pick" is pointing to Match 8, Subby vs Leon. if you'd rather see everyone's pick for the next match, change the dropdown to "9" and hit the button... or 63 to see their Finals pick, or anything else you want * any pick anywhere on the site that goes against the Guru Cookie is rewarded with red text (red for "risky") * speaking of which, the Guru Cookie is a bracket that makes the most "popular" choice for every matchup, based on all 220+ brackets. it's listed in the rankings as though it's an actual person, but that's just for fun (it doesn't actually cost you a position on the ranks if you're currently behind it) But surely the most popular feature of all are those Guru Stats! You can check them at any time by clicking "Matchup Stats" on top, which takes you to http://thengamer.com/guru/stats.php Here we have the listing of every match along with how many brackets picked each possible winner. * the handy color coded text on the left of this page reminds you whether that poll will be a Day Match, Night Match, or 24 hour poll * click the "Who Picked Whom" button to see the complete listing of what users selected each winner in their brackets * you can also get to this Who Picked Whom listing by clicking the "+" next to any matchup on a user's bracket page --- Now it's time for everyone in the competition to complete the following VERY IMPORTANT 3 step process. 1. Click your name on the site. Is the bracket we have listed for you there 100% correct? If not, post back here with the changes you need to have made. 2. Tag this topic! LtK and others will be keeping you updated on results, Guru stats for upcoming matchups, and Eliminations all season long! 3. Just wondering, I saw I have been eliminated. I thought I looked over all brackets near me and did not see how I would be gone. Who eliminated me? --- A real gamer should save the world at least once a week. After the battle with 256 gurus, Black Turtle stands victorious over the fallen. |

woo, 40th. I actually have a unique bracket with 2 upsets. I'm not sure how that happened. a request - is there any way to get the scores updated sooner? I love looking at them each match but sometimes they lag behind by 1-2 matches. maybe give some other people the ability to select winners? --- xyzzy |

If you don't have many upsets you could check if anyone has all the upsets you do, then check the number of upsets they have to make sure it's the same. Do you have some awesome new way of deciding when people are eliminated, or is it all guess-and-check style brute force? My closest competition (as near as I can tell): Xuxon - is ahead by 1, 12 pts diff in R1/R2, 4 thereafter Eeeeevil - is ahead by 0, 10 pts diff in R1/R2, 4 thereafter bbbtime - is ahead by 1, 12 pts diff in R1/R2, 4 thereafter Zylo - is ahead by 1, 11 pts diff in R1/R2, 8 thereafter Kleenex - is ahead by 0, 12 pts diff in R1/R2, 8 thereafter special sauce - is behind by 1, 10 pts diff in R1/R2, 8 thereafter Given that I made a few odd picks, I could well be eliminated before R3 begins, but if I am it'll be by one of these people. |

tbh azuarc, i'll be pretty surprised if you survive round 2, just from my bracket. i don't see any of your upset picks in round 1 working out apart from maybe Tidus, and if you miss all your upsets in round 1 that alone eliminates you. best case scenario, i could see Kirby beating Sonic, Tidus winning 2 rounds and Dante beating Sora, which would leave you 1 point behind at MMX vs MK, where the winner of that would eliminate the other. |

To answer your question azuarc, I have set up a spreadsheet which compares max score possible for each entrant against what points everyone else is guaranteed to get based on that persons bracket. Seems to work. Lets say that I picked Conker/Poo in Rd 1, until that match happened I had 1 point as possibly getting it right. Anyone else who had this choice scored 1 point also, anyone with Ike had 0. Now the match has been held, I have 0 points for that match, everyone with Ike has 1. If I happened to have the same winner in Rd 2, all people would have 0 points for that match until it was held, as obvously I can't get it right, and nobody else is guaranteed to get points for it in Rd 2 (at this stage). These points are done for each person - so I have 220+ lots of scores being compared against 220+ other brackets - that's why the spreadsheet is over 40MB in size. Good thing is it eliminates most of the effort and shouldn't miss any eliminations, unless I have made an error entering brackets. Don't worry if you don't fully understand how it works (bit hard to describe), just know it works. --- ~ Ringworm ~ |
