Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 166

I'm thinking enough saw what Frog did last year for Frog to have the majority of the brackets... not by a huge margin, though.

Me too; I stick with my original 52% prediction for bracket-support.

Obviously LoZ Collection outsold them, but still, we have no proof that collections actually increase a characters strength.

It greatly outsold them. And was packaged with the GameCube. That is the very large difference.

Yeah, because sales automatically mean a quality title. Uh-huh.

Did I ever say that? Did I ever imply that? No, I did not.

Uh, my God.

Listen, during the time that it was packaged with the GCN, it sold 1.5 million copies/systems.

Well HM, it'd make sense that you've heard more negatives about The Wind Waker, considering that's the one you've played/have interest in. I'm sure you've heard more good about it too.

Seriously, how many "outside of board 8" sources do you have on FFX-2? Probably not many. They're both pretty similar, and I'd put my money on FFX-2 having more haters, but I'm not going to start a debate on that.

Didn't most people already have their GameCubes by that point?

It doesn't matter, really; if five billion people had a Gamecube at that time, it still wouldn't change the fact that one or two million Gamecubes were still sold afterwards with LoZ:CE.

I used to frequent a big FF fansite before I started coming here regularly. Back when FFX-2 was released, most of the FFX fans ate it up (and they still do, from what I've seen when I occasionally still visit). Of course, there were a few naysayers, but that's with any game.

Actually, yes. You defended WW, then brought up FFX-2 and its sales.

Seriously, how many "outside of board 8" sources do you have on FFX-2? Probably not many.

Only from a few select boards, which includes the FFX-2 board, but they aren't the entire world or anything. But the most negative I have heard of FFX-2 actually comes from this board. The TWW hate I saw came from here, its own board, and a few choice Nintendo boards. Obviously, it's nothing that is something to take that seriously, but I never saw a hatred of it outside of here -- FFX-2 that is.

But regardless, I don't see why FFX-2 wouldn't help someone who has only appeared in one game and is significantly weaker than Link. It isn't just another entry featuring the same character, like with the TWW. But, eh, we'll see.

Just wondering, but why is just about every case of underperformace or overperformace reffered to as SFF? And if all under/overperformaces have to be SFF, doesn't that make WDF a case of rSFF under a different name?

I brought its sales up, yes. It's always nice to have a comparison between how the previous game sold and how the game in question sold. I never stated that FFX-2 was a quality game or that it was anything like that. I even stated multiple times that I haven't ever played the game.

Here is probably the more credible source for opinions on new games anyway. One who frequents the FFX board is likely to be voting Yuna regardless, same with Link.

17 handhelds Nintendo has taken down 1 more to go (see quote for rest)
From: HaRRicH | Posted: 7/24/2005 11:12:35 PM | Message Detail
Personally, I try to keep myself from calling certain under-performances SFF (like Mega/Tidus)...that's actually a kinky way of thinkin' with Link/Sephiroth though; I haven't called it be called rSFF yet. The thing on that, though (at least to my understanding), is that WDF is more of a huge backlash of votes against an all-Nintendo final than rSFF.

Essentially the same, with only the intentions being different, really.

That's it! Samus was able to rSFF both Sonic and Sephiroth due to Super Metroid and Smash Brothers being so close to the 2D Sonic games and FF7!

Obvious SFF, just like Link/Mega Man!

As a side-note, I'm watching Dilbert right now...and it just had a quick scene where abunch of useless bull****-reasoning was made up on the spot and used to explain how one blurry star in a picture of the sky had to be beaming with life-forms. It reminded me alot of some of the factors we make (and yes, I know I can be bad for it on occasion, too, heh).
