Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 169

Yeah... Auron/Ganon isn't anymore decided then it was last week.

to be fair, Big Boss probably isn't Ocelot's equal, nor is this match over percentage-wise. the only thing that sticks out to me is Ganon's 86% prediction percentage. if that many people have him over one FF10 character, I'd expect a lot to have him over Auron as well. bracket voting could mean something in a match this close; I've got it 53-47 Ganon.

Big Boss is already beginning to fall apart before the major portion of the day vote even gets here. That's pathetic. I am at least happy that MGS characters are constantly putting up repeated weak performances in these contests.

Wow, Auron's pounding the everloving **** outta Big Boss here.

But I have a question that may be important in the long run. Is the name Big Boss ever mentioned in MGS3, or is it like Metroid Prime / Dark Samus, where it's never mentioned that the two are the same and you have to link the two yourself?

At the 5:05 mark, here's the vote total comparison.

Auron/Big Boss - 15,548
Ganon/Yuna - 18,002
Samus/Yuri - 14,766

It has jumped ahead of Samus/Yuri.

For the side-poll, I cried the first few times I watched the MGS2 opening cutscene. Happy tears though, so I don't know if those count.

As for actual sadness, Daryl's Tomb is where it's at. I can't think of anything sadder than that, and I don't even really like Setzer.

(Metal Gear Solid 3 Spoilers)

The name "Big Boss" isn't mentioned until the very end of the game. The President says something to the affect of "You're even higher than The Boss, I give you the title 'Big Boss.'"

Up until that point he's referred to as either Naked Snake or Jack.

Hmm. So people aren't beaten over the head enough with that point... can't say I'm really surprised Auron's winning so big, since other than that the only mentions of Big Boss, excluding MG and MG2 which no one played, are to his remains in MGS, remains that shouldn't even exist to begin with.

I always thought one of the main selling points of MGS was its good gameplay comboed with the good story. If people were playing for the action, they'd stick with Splinter Cell.

And you'd have to like, pretty much ignore the story to not know that Big Boss=Naked Snake. The only excuse is if you haven't even played MGS3. Which, is plausible I guess.

Big Boss getting nominated to be in this contest puts Cjay in kind of a predicament with spoilers. He doesn't really have any choice but to put up an instruction manual picture from MGS, which will obviously be unfamiliar to most. I would say that not getting completely hammered is a good showing for Metal Gear in this contest. Seriously, who's going to vote for that picture thinking that they're voting for MGS3? It's just not the same thing. There was an obvious error on the part of the nominators in their word choice. Had they nominated...

**SPOILERS**

Naked Snake then Auron would probably be pulling in at least 5% less of the vote. No matter what it's difficult to get Metal Gear characters into this contest with all the cloning and complications in the story.

It's probably best to stick with the static characters in the series, like Solid Snake and Revolver Ocelot. The Boss wouldn't have been a bad nomination either.

They probably nominated Naked Snake, but Ceej knows the spoiler and entered him as Big Boss, to avoid cross-voting shenanigans and whatnot, I suppose. I think if Dark Samus made the villain contest, it would've been under the Metroid Prime moniker.

Auron is doing way better than I could have ever expected him to do. Now either BB is fodderriffic, or Auron is finally tired of only winning 65/35. This division is going to have two awesome 2nd round matches.

*kinda spoilers*

I don't think Big Boss should get a Naked Snake picture, I mean besides him being a different character than Solid, he basically looks identical to him so its unfair. Its the same case why CJayC has never included X in the contest and just put Mega Man, X is not the same person, he just looks identical.

I don't think Big Boss should get a Naked Snake picture,

Why, though? The two are one in the same. It's silly to not use a picture of Big Boss from MGS3 when it was him. But I'm putting a lot of money on CJayC using a picture of Naked Snake as Solid Snake's picture, which doesn't make a lick of sense.

Big Boss is probably suffering from Wesker syndrome in terms of game involvement. Hardcore fans of the series know who he is and like him, but the casual fan could care less....

Crying over a video game? DOES NOT COMPUTE! Seriously... I hardly cry at all. I initially thought the Aeris scene was fake, since her expression looked so Barbie doll like. I know it was CRUDE FMV back then, but her smile didn't even change. Plus the music was blah to me because it sounded too much like Aria de Mezzo Caraterre.

Speaking of Aeris's Theme... I've never tried to play that on the piano. I need to dowload the sheet music. I did learn how to play Tifa's Theme though... since Tifa >>>>> Aeris. <_<

In the beginning of the game you promise Jowy to meet him back at that spot and blah blah blah. Anyways, you don't have to go back to that spot at the end of the game in order to finish it. So the first time through, I had completely forgotten about the promise, and just finished the game without going and you get a sad picture and I don't even remember. I felt bad.

Big Boss 19.20

Auron through Scorpion:

Big Boss 20.44
62 HK-47 20.41

You damn skippy Raiden would be doing better. I think Raiden at the very least could hold Auron to his traditional 35-65 beating. This match should help clarify that Solid Snake will be getting "Big Boss's MGS Boost", and that most fans think similarly to me.

Raiden over Scorpion or Ness doesn't seem too outta wack to me. Raiden hate is overrated.

Auron's looking pretty good over Ganondorf right now, though.

I don't recall that being the consensus, but I might have just skimmed over that for some reason. But I'm not even sure where people actually expected Big Boss to be, though it shouldn't have been high to begin with. The entire cast of MGS is rather lackluster in their contest performances as of late.

Oh, and to expand on what TRE did last night, for those who put vote totals or votes into contest strength here's a comparison between Ganon and Auron at the 9:35 mark.

Auron - 27,605
Ganon - 27,160

Keep in mind that Ganon's opponent was significantly stronger.
