non VG character contest on a site like this would be horrible
imo,sure it'd inpredictable but hannibal lector vs jarjar binks is

If we're trying to start a rally for any uber-fodder character it
should be one with almost an entirely female fanbase like Barbie. Think about it, either it would be funny to see her get utterly destroyed, or we'd be laughing at the fact that someone like Batman couldn't even get 90% on Barbie. --- FastFalcon owned me in the Guru Contest! |

I'm assuming you are talking about Fallout 3/Halo 3 which is IMO a very
debatable match or do you mean the thrashing that SMG gave both of them

That second one is a kickass match. Throw some game characters in there and we're golden. Master Chief/Dante/Han Solo/Harry Potter Are you kidding me? Every bit as unpredictable, and loads more awesome. A contest is comprised of two basic components: format and roster. A good 90% of the people here will tell you that we appear to be stuck with an inferior format, so if we want to make things more entertaining and interesting, the only way seems to be tweaking the roster. And if it sucks, so what? It's a foregone conclusion that 4way Character Battle III will suck. The last one concluded with one of the most exciting weeks in contest history, and most people here will still tell you that contest sucked. Less restrictive 4-way character contest would be awesome and
completely insane. If you're going for nonsensical garbage results, you

Eh most results have logic, even in four ways. It's just not logic this topic tends to enjoy applying. I think I'd like to see the all character four way contest. It'd be ridiculous but I'm just dying for a one year break (or alternatively a one year switch in format but that never happens) from the character battle at this point to shake our knowledge up a bit. --- No problem! The first 4-ways contest was great because it was new and unexpected.
Plus, the bracket was actually put together well and we had a great
deal of close matches. This wasn't so last year. The bracket wasn't put
together very well, and so we didn't end up with as many good matches.
Gimmicks should not be reused though, and that's the problem with
4-ways. It's a gimmick, nothing more. Galaxy would never struggle against MGS4 in a poll. People keep saying this, but you can't find a single poll where Galaxy outdoes Brawl in anything. You can point to Galaxy's 2007 GOTY win compared to Brawl's 2008 GOTY win, but today's poll shouts it out loud and clear that Brawl won despite the fact that Nintendo's power has lessened since 2007. Let's look at how this is going compared to the first time we had one, which was July 29, 2008. Today: Wii - 58.41% XBox 360 - 53.50% PS3 - 37.15% Then: Wii - 57.44% XBox 360 - 48.47% PS3 - 31.58% Wii's only gone up by a percent, 360 by 5%, and PS3 by nearly 6% in the last six months. Let's check out the "Got..." polls at the end of 2007. | First off, the problem is of course Jack ****ing
Bauer wins by default, this is not even debatable. So it would be
boring. Secondly, I don't care about non gaming characters in a contest
like that....who gives a ****? That said, we could put Bauer in any contest and Bauer wins by default. Best Planet ever? Jack Bauer. Best Ocean Ever? Jack Bauer. Best Game Ever? Jack Bauer. Best Pokemon Ever? Jack Bauer. Person who makes Chuck Norris and Superman wet their pants? Jack Bauer. 2 against 9? Jack Bauer. LFF. At the very least, everyone hates seeing their favorites lose

I think part of the reason I like 4ways though is I'm not a Nintendo
fan, and most of the SFF/LFF Splits have been with Nintendo characters

The 1v1 matches were getting a little stale and I think L-Block wiping
the floor with the main bracket made it obvious a shake-up had to
happen. I believe the majority of L-Blocks joke votes were people sick
of the format and wanted SOMETHING new besides Cloud/Link for eternity.
The only thing that would have changed every year under 1v1 would be
new characters from new games...though they would be eliminated come
Round 2 and we'd be back to Clinkeroth XXXIV. 4v4 replaces the intensity of 1v1 matches with complete and utter unpredictability. Not only do you have to judge who is strongest, but who will split the vote amongst his competitors and to what degree meaning you have to judge everyone in the four-pack. Forcing the player to draw the top two characters/games is like an extra layer of crazy because it's possible for someone to edge into spot #2 from a vote split despite not being strong. It would be ridiculous for Bacon to pull this argument. I can understand why people would hate four-ways, but not why they persist in hating them. ^ Ever since I started college back in September, I've rarely gone on
AIM. It absolutely wrecks my work ethic, and it turns a 1-page essay
into a 2 and 1/2 hour "Ooookay, where was I?" clinic. And that's
without even taking into consideration the frustration associated with
the random convos from the varoius people that should forever be
