Very impressive showing from Altair. I had a feeling he'd win, but not by this much.

His match against Vivi's during the day, too. Altair's getting to round 3 in all likelihood.

I'm not to brag past that, since anyone who says this wasn't a tossup is a liar. But Liquid dying like this is a surprise. Where was this MGS day vote fail during THE DRAKE match?

And based on the 2007 stats, Vivi beats Liquid with 55.13% (though I don't know whose stats Ngamer's LOL XSTATS machine uses or how the numbers were arrived at), so yeah.

Based on Liquid 2007, Altair 2010 gets 51.52% on Altair 2008, which isn't a big boost, but it's a little. Now I'm sure a lot of you guys aren't going to take this stuff seriously (I don't entirely believe all of it myself). It's just something to think about more than anything else.

Ah, you know it's funny, these people, they go to sleep. They think everything's fine, everything's good... They wake up the next day and they're on fire.

Honestly, I thought Liquid would win this one fairly easily. Altair's surprising me with how well he's doing. I'm not trying to make excuses for Altair or anything, but this feels more like a Liquid turd (gross) than Altair impressing, like Alucard/Magus was.

All that said, I'd still lean toward calling Altair the favorite over Vivi next round. Don't see him beating Kirby either way though.

See I virtually ignored 4ways completely. All you can pull from them are time-of-day trends and eye tests, and even then I would have picked Liquid with an eye test. He was on steroids last year.

I'm not saying this is all Liquid doing bad though. If you assume half of this result is from Altair boosting and half is from Liquid/Luigi being overrated, Luigi still looks really bad. Make it 2/3 or 3/4 and Luigi still looks bad. It may not be conclusive, but I don't see how this match doesn't make Luigi look bad.

I think right now AC2 was a much bigger game than we thought, AC1 was mixed, but the second had a fantastic reception an Altair's got "the look", so he's the Kratos of this generation.

I think you're the only person that thinks this is the same Liquid that we saw last year against Luigi.

He may not be the same, but the gap between Altair's percentage here and what he was expected to get is suggestive nonetheless. You'd need an absolutely huge boost from Altair and/or a huge overperformance or drop by Liquid to explain this otherwise, and there's a very easy explanation that matches up with what we saw from the rest of Nintendo in 2008 that makes this match substantially easier to explain.

It's not like I just started saying Luigi deboosted now; I've been calling Zack > Luigi since round 2 of last year.

I gotta agree with Bostonboy here. this match just feels too weird to just blame it all on liquid just dropping hard. And I wouldn't even expect much of a MGS4 boost for him last year...<spoilers>



he's not even in the game outside of an arm as far as I know.

And with AC2 being a popular new game, and with Altair looking almost identical to Ezio, this could be the Big Boss kinda phenomenon. That both Ezio and Altair will just give eachother strength since they look so close to eachother.. so it won't matter who is in what game, voters will think of them as the same.

Basically, in summary, I'm sayign that this is the AC2s boost all around, that has made Altair a high mid carder.

Zelda had Mario in that match, so no, it's quite different. Though if you want, yes, Knuckles doing badly is a bad sign for Mario and Zelda- just a pretty weak sign.

That's true, I agree with that. I think FPF probably didn't do too in that match for the reason that it usually happens in matches where the margin is much wider. Though I guess SMW/FF1 had a similar margin and a ton of FPF, so it's possible. I would give Luigi a lot more slack here if it weren't for Yoshi and Bowser (and to a lesser extent, a lot of the other Nintendo characters).

I disagree that the Nintendo characters have looked pretty good, and I'm not saying Luigi deboosted worse than normal for a Ninty character or anything. I don't buy that he's going to stay at this 2007 strength while the other Nintendo characters fall.

Luigi's path sucks, he gets Ammy next round and then either Cube or The Boss before getting destroyed by Link.

This bracket would be better if some of the Square in the lower half switched with some of the Nintendo in the upper half, but oh well.

My Oracle there will be around 70%. There's no way Luigi stayed constant while everyone else in Nintendo has looked pretty good.

DK was the bracket favorite against Vivi, when casuals love picking the higher seed and the match had already happened once. I can't get over this.

What do you mean by that? The fact that Ocelot lost to Jill after MGS4? I think it's pretty much universally agreed that those 2 matches don't make any sense, and to try and base any arguments off of them is moronic. There could have been any number of factors to explain it, Cloud SFFing Jill harder than Ocelot, Kratos SFFing Ocelot harder than Jill, MGS' hardcore fanbase making a bigger difference in the match with less votes (because Cloud was eating up 2/3 of the votes)
