Now
HERE is a company with some weakass series. I actually voted for Sonic
because I have a combined 30-60 minutes of playtime with every other
series on that list. If I actually played some Sega games, my guess is

1. Sonic 2. Phantasy Star 3. Shining Force I can live with this... Shining Force 2 and Phantasy Star 4 are both top 5 games for me, but Sonic is also a good series. I can see Zelda failing to hit 40. Animal Crossing Donkey Kong Country Fire Emblem Kirby Metroid Mother Pokemon Star Fox Super Mario Bros. Super Smash Bros. Super Mario Kart Nintendo is one seriously stacked company. That
was before LoZ:TP too, which was the 2004-2006 champion and just a
little behind SSBB...and such a poll wouldn't have FF, MGS, Sonic, Mega
Man, Resident Evil, and more...yikes. Still, Pokemon's going to take a lot more percentage than last time while SSB and MK would both provide two more important series and make a dent with multi-player fans. Things
could have changed in the three years between those contests. Sonic as
a series could be weaker now than in the mid-2000s. The last Character

Series Contest was four years ago and Sonic's embarrassed itself a lot
since then. Isn't MKW the best-selling non-Wii _____ game on the Wii,
too? I'm not taking that upset, but I could see Mario Kart get close to

think Smash Bros. would do a lot worse now than in 2006, though.
Without the hype, it's not going to resist SFF against SMB like that

why Super Mario Bros. can get super close to Final Fantasy despite the
fact that FFVII would beat any Mario game with zero effort, and FFX
could give them all a run for their money. FFVIII would give some of

Well
Sonic certainly seems to lack said respect factor. It wouldn't have
lost that badly to a series with two games, Smash or not. You put MM in
its place in 2006, and I bet it fights to win that match against Smash

Fair enough about the sales, but it never hurts to continue the trend compared to whatever Sonic's done! And SSB will be fine. It won't resist Mario-SFF like 2006, but SSBB still has an argument for being the site's #3-game and the SMG/NSMB-games haven't proven much here outside of 2007's GotY-poll. Really, SSB's had the biggest game on the past two Nintendo-consoles. the way, using yesterday's poll and FF/RE from the Series Contest, the
Chrono series is projected to get 47% on the RE series. Not bad
considering the rest of the RE series besides RE4 should add a lot more

x-stats bring up a point I was about to make: KH did quite well for
just having two games, and we know the SSB-series is considerably

The SSB Series is
strong. It was projected to get something like 63% (!) against Metal
Gear in 2006. Although I still suspect that SMB overperformed in FF/SMB
thanks to the massive picture disparity (Mario vs. Ashe, whose game

not worried about the pic in a SMB/FF-poll. EVERY gamer knows SMB and
nearly every GameFAQs-voter knows FF. Of course, it probably didn't

Well,
I was very uncomfortable with the idea of Mario being worth 46% on
Zelda, and with Sonic being (substantially) stronger than Metal Gear
and Megaman. We've seen with Snake that pictures do matter even for
very strong characters, and as far as recognizability goes, that FF
picture did as good a job representing FF as Zero Suit Samus did

It has the whole X series advantage, and the "respect vote" you brought up is a great point, because I feel Mega Man has it while Sonic does not. The Sonic characters have embarrassed themselves recently, while Mega Man looks pretty damn good until he hits the beasts. Mega Man did as well on Cid Highwind as Sonic did on Lightning before her game was out.
