And like every one of those weak MvC polls is from 2003 or earlier. This poll is the first time in over seven years that MvC2 has been in a poll.

But MvC3 was doing pretty well in hype polls, so I just uh... extrapolated it or something into an MvC2 win.

Hmmm. Good point actually.

When quickly digging through polls I neglected to look at those. Damn. I could've beat that damn Analysis Crew! (Because yeah I really think MvC2 is gonna win this at this point)

I've split the States by time zones (states in more than 1 times zone were put in the one where more people lived in, I also added Alaska and Hawaii to Pacific)

Their percent breakdown for MvC2 is as follows.

Pacific - 56.67%
Mountain - 47.80%
Central - 48.79%
Eastern - 50.49%

Remember while Pacific will get a larger percent of the votes later it still only accounts for about 1/6 of the US population.

Hmmm.... I don't think I like MvC2's chances as much anymore.

Pacific's percentage is particularly dubious because they're the only time zone that hasn't really started into the day vote yet. They might start to tank.

Ehhhh. It does and it doesn't.

The day vote shift is less pronounced on the weekend due to starting earlier, but I wouldn't really say it starting at 8-9AM is entirely accurate.

Just watch Pacific's percentage. If it doesn't tank at all I'll concede defeat there but I expect a good 1-2% drop there from now till match end.

Well, around 8 AM (in weekend polls) is when North America starts to recover from its terrible night vote/early morning vote. If you want to see North America in action when its recovering from its terrible night vote, look at this:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdHpEYmJDdktneHBQQXNoVXdLcUY3cEE&gid=1

That shows the percentage of votes that each option got during each update. Also lists the vote intake for each option during every update. You can notice North America slowly recovering as more people begin to wake up.

The day vote has always started around 8-9 on weekends and in the summer. The latest day votes (KH and Western stuff) get going by 10, 11 at latest. Nintendo stuff tends to get going closer to 8 AM and is usually in full force past 9 AM. It used to be that Nintendo would actually peak in the late morning, and would start falling off past 1 PM. More recently, Nintendo doesn't seem to drop off in the afternoon anymore, but it doesn't go up either.

Well it "starts" sure but it's not all full throttle like on the weekdays so it keeps going longer too. More gradual drop and I don't think the west coast has hit the majority of it yet.

Then again with the power hour vote existing in the morning now who really knows.

At least if NSMB loses I won't be losing too many points since I somehow forgot to pick a winner for BG2 vs SoA. I could have sworn I picked SoA, but I guess I just completely forgot about picking a game that match since I had no intention of banking.

Let's see over the past few hours around the world.

Europe has gone slightly up for NSMBW
Canada has gone slightly down for NSMBW
South America has gone down a lot for MvC2
Oceania has flipped to NSMBW
US has slowly risen with MvC2
North America now slightly favours MvC2
Asia has stayed the same.
The West Coast hasn't changed that much overall, though Hawaii has gone up a lot for MvC2.

This has been quite the contest so far! Have we had such an intense first round before in a contest, as far as close matches?

Winners < 55% (in fact, these are all 53% or closer):
Mega Man 9 - 53.00%
Halo 3 - 52.53%
Valkyrie Chronicles - 52.41%
Skies of Arcadia - 52.40%
Persona 3 - 52.35%
Tales of Symphonia - 52.17%

Winners < 51%:
Dead Rising - 50.91%
Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald - 50.77%
Deux Ex - 50.76%
Street Fighter IV - 50.75%
Morrowind - 50.45%
Team Fortress - 50.03%

Then, today, we will most likely have a winner with under 51%.

Just want to take a moment and say let's not forget neither game has proven to be strong at all yet. We've seen dominantly-Dreamcast games like SA2, Shenmue, and SoA so far...none of them look very good. We've seen other traditional fighting games flop in recent times, ranging from Street Fighter 2/4 to Soul Calibur. We've seen NSMBW get taken to town in last year's GotY-polls. We can safely assume SMG is significantly stronger here than NSMBW, and SMS might be too. MvsC3 may be hyped and it may be a new Mario-game, but frankly, I doubt those factors mean much here. These two are probably just jobberific.

I also wouldn't use NSMBW to say much about SSBB. Mario's strength in games hasn't represented its series well for two generations now, the Wii was still liked when SSBB came out, SSBB still murdered MKDS like it killed MKW, and LoZ:TP still looked good. It's not a good measuring stick
