FFX is still the heavy favorite, an upset won't happen unless a decent sized bandwagon starts forming around Majora. It may have picked up a bit of proxy OoT power due to OoT being absent from the contest, but I don't think it has enough to take on a top 10 game like FFX.

Majora only got 55% on GSC, with SFF. Which probably puts it around MGS strength on a good day. FFX has that match in the bag.

I'm pretty confident the only potential surprise we could see is FFX > Brawl, and last year's match certainly doesn't inspire confidence in FFX.

I think MM > FFX is quite possible. I've argued MGS > FFX for a long time, and while that may no longer be true due to the Metal Gear Solid series evidently falling apart this year, that doesn't really affect last year's MGS. I don't think FFX would break 53% on GSC, and MM looks to be in that area. I'm expecting a fairly close match out of MM at least, even if it doesn't win.

If you think that FFX can beat Brawl, and that it definitely will beat MM, then you must be living in a fantasy.

I don't have that much fayth in FFX, to be honest.

Only thing I'm worried about is the brain damage from people repeatedly hitting their heads against their desks after Turtle wins.

Majora's Mask winning the contest would be awesome. Though yes it would prove that people are voting for it out of MM being an OoT proxy but still, MM is far more deserving than any of the other games which have a shot at it (RE4 no longer has a shot).

Last Round

Fallout 3 – 60.60%
Halo: Combat Evolved – 39.40%

Metroid Prime – 50.73%
Half-Life 2 – 49.27%

Analysis

Even taking into account that it was a night match and that Halo lost an hour of North American voting Fallout 3 was pretty impressive last round showing that the game has not started to age. On the other match Metroid Prime won a very close match that could have gone the other way at night. Not that it stop all of the whining that came with Metroid Prime winning.

I think Fallout 3 did its best job at showing why the game was the heavy favourite at reaching the semi-finals. Beating Halo like it did was really impressive and Metroid Prime has not really shown that the game is capable of putting up a similar performance. Halo may not be as strong as what some people expected based on acclaim, but the game still has decent strength.

It was a good move on SBAllen’s part to remove all of the strong games from the first two divisions to give some of the weaker games a chance to show what they can do. Personally I wouldn’t mind if he did something similar with the character battle, though someone not from the noble nine reaching the semi-finals may be a bit too far. Still something like the Heart Division would be fine, and then have the winner get crushed by Link or something.

Just to ask, is Samus supposed to be well-known as an "over-the-top" character? I view her that way and that's why I most like her, far moreso than any of her games (even though both Super Metroid and Prime are among my all-time favorites), Smash appearances (besides she sucks in 64 and Brawl), or being iconic.
