I think Vaas will be a big flop. I can't see a character from the campaign mode of a shooting game having any kind of strength. The 3 biggest characters from Call of Duty 4 are the strongest characters from the campaign mode of a shooting game, with Captain John Price right around the fodder line.

That's the problem, Borderlands 2 by far has the largest fanbase, but they don't care about her while Lollipop Chainsaw likely has the smallest yet are more likely to support Juliet.

I've got Neku because DAT TOP OPTION and he's "already paid his dues" in a contest people actually cared about. Just as Vyse finally got a win by facing Laharl as DAT TOP OPTION and Laharl finally got one by facing Neku as DAT TOP OPTION, so too will Neku finally get his first win. And since this technically is Catherine's second appearance, she'll be due to continue the chain next time.

She's from a game that isn't technically part of the SMT series, but is somewhat related. So if you wouldn't take a Persona character in her spot, you probably shouldn't take her, since Persona is probably the strongest SMT-related entity in the US.

I feel Ness kinda ruins Luigi/Big Boss

He could do the same that Bowser did in 2003 (or Mario in 2005) which would minimize LFF damage (you'd have to believe that Luigi would win in a comfortable close match 1v1 though)

That's not a bad pick if Snake can beat Cloud and get to the finals. It's definitely better than expecting Cloud to take advantage of Link/Mario LFF to win the contest.

Harder? You mean easier. What you want is Cloud/Snake/Sora, which incidentally has an enormous chance of happening if Pikachu beats Crono. No matter who wins the last third of the division, it'll hurt Pikachu a lot - Fox siphons Smash support like nothing else, and Blue...is from his own freakin' game. Crono is old square, and thus relatively independent from Cloud...but Sora? Sora is what MADE Cloud. There's no one better to siphon his support, and I'm taking Snake to the finals and a fairly decent second or third place.

I have Snake/Cloud/Pikachu. Snake got like 48% on Cloud three years ago, which is a long time for the downward trend of FF7 to grow.

No faith in Pikachu from me. He's gonna have to survive being leeched by a midcarder (because for Blue to win he has to be one - Fox is, and Wolf has zero strength to leech Fox with) against Sora, who might or might not have dipped, but has received a couple new releases since last contest. The gap between them is not big enough that it can't be overcome.

Who is "Hero" and is he popular?

KH3 is gonna be shown at E3.

...Oh holy crap. Guys, what if KH3 has Squall and Cloud in the trailer? Think we could see a boost for them, or at least something to keep them at their previous levels?

Sonic/VIncent/Bowser is very difficult. I understand Vincent probably being the favorite but it just seems weird. That match will likely have all three break 30% with the winner getting only 35%.

I'm kinda befuddled at the Otacon support. The Boss, a character who would crush Otacon, is maybe a 50/50 against Magus. Otacon just isn't the sort of character who can do well in these things. Characters need to actually do stuff and not be whiny little nerds who pee their pants.

Pit/Wrex/Cecil is interesting and the winner definitely affects the next match.

If Wrex or Cecil wins, then they have a good shot at winning the ninepack with Wario and Red weighing them down.

Pit could win though (I feel he has hidden strength because he's been in SFF matches during 4ways a few years back and now has his own game. Also Nintendo etc.) and then I think Red wins.

For some reason I'm feeling Pit. Don't know why, just can't imagine cecil doing well.

I think having Pikachu messing with the Snake/Cloud match gives Cloud the win to be honest. I don't think Snake can beat Cloud without Brawl support.

If Crono or Sora gets through though, bet it all on Snake.

Tough part of the bracket, and those early Division 6 matches are really important.

Counterpoint: Cecil is at the level of Knuckles and I bet if this was Pit/Knuckles/Wrex you'd pick Knux to sleepwalk to the win.

But if it helps any...here's a quickie analysis. Last time we saw Cecil, we also saw ME2 Shepard. Said Shepard scores about 55% on slightly-worse-than-Knuckles Cecil. We know that is Wrex's absolute ceiling, but that likely he won't be at that level - he's closer to Pit's level last time we saw him than that. So this is likely to be a two horse race - Pit on one side, Cecil on the other. Now, go and do this for fun: find Cecil's last Xstat value before Dissidia ('08 I think) and plug that with Pit's value. Surprisingly, they are pretty close, like one or two points away at most. We know that Cecil boosted from a handheld game that introduced him to a new crowd of gamers, and how much he boosted by. It's feasible to assume Pit could boost the same amount. Unfortunately, that's not enough to secure the win. 'Base Cecil' is stronger than 'Base Pit', so Pit would have to score a larger boost from Uprising AND be underrated in the '08 stats to win. It's possible, yes, but unlikely. You also have to assume that lacking a game made Pit weaker than he'd otherwise be, and that the fans he gained from Brawl are not the sum total of his popularity now. In summary:

-IF Pit boosts as much as Cecil did from gaining new fans, he has a shot at winning.
-IF Pit is underrated by the xstats, his chances go up.
-IF Cecil has not boosted any further from Dissidia Duodecim and his eleventybillion ports, the above holds true.
-IF all of the above combines, Pit gets the win.

That's way too many ifs to take him. Of course, I didn't mention one thing, though:

-IF Pit features in the new Smash trailer, forget it, pick him to win 'cause he will.

I think that covers it.
