Shadow 2007:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/2869
37.8% on Auron.
Wario 2008:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/3244
42.6% on Zack. Probably around 40% 1-on-1?

Then we also have SFF comparisons against 2008 Link
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/3245
Shadow got 20.3% on Link.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/3276
Wario got 16.6% on Link.

You'd think Wario would get SFFed more. Plus Wario might have been Last Place Factored while Shadow wasn't too far from Zidane.

And I would think that even IF Wario has dropped since then (which he might not have) Shadow has dropped more.

At this point, Wario is in contention for getting revenge for that 65% result Shadow got on him in 2003.

Shadow dropping is the more likely case.

I don't think Wario has much reason to drop or rise. He'll probably always be around the same strength.

Match LXXI: (4) Pokemon Trainer Red vs. (15) Corvo Attano vs. (24) Sissel

Previous Contest

Pokemon Trainer Red – 2010
50.16% against Revolver Ocelot
38.84% against Mega Man X

Corvo Attano – N/A
N/A

Sissel – N/A
N/A

Analysis

I have always felt that Red would perform better using a Pokemon picture rather than his Super Smash Bros. Brawl picture. After seeing Blue almost beat Fox and Wolf combined I feel more confident about that prediction, but should the Ocelot that we saw earlier this round be the same one Red went up against in 2010 the boost may not be very big. Sadly we will not know how much the picture factor helps given the characters.

I have no idea who takes second in this match. Corvo is the main character of Dishonored, but I feel that is the type of game people on GameFAQs do not play. I would give the picture advantage to Corvo as he looks cooler while Sissel is a guy in a suit. However, Sissel is animated, including crazy hair style which GameFAQs may like.

Sissel is the main character of Ghost Trick, which we already had a character perform from. Even ignoring Missile’s beginning he was essentially equal with Kerrigan which may not sound like much, but it was more than what I gave him credit for. Sissel should be stronger than Missile which should make Sissel the favourite, but I do wonder how much of a factor the picture had on Missile’s strength.

From my experience when given an option of two weak characters the eastern character is the safe bet. I do not have much confidence in Sissel, but if he is stronger than Missile he should win. With that said Pokemon Trainer Red could be reaching a high percentage. I feel he could finish in the low to mid 60s with this type of competition.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Pokemon Trainer Red > Sissel and Corvo Attano

charmander6000’s Prediction: Pokemon Trainer Red – 62.27%, Sissel – 20.94%, Corvo Attano – 16.79%

There's nothing suspicious about Indonesia. The percentages for Indonesia suggest there were 126 votes from that country. That's normal for a night match. And for comparison, Squall's match had 120 votes from Indonesia.

I'm looking at the match picture, and despite being against two animated characters and being in the middle, Corvo just doesn't stand out to me at all. My eye automatically goes to the right and Sissel's blond hair and red suit. It's not Missile level standout, but it still doesn't inspire confidence in Corvo.

This Sunday, we will have our first bonus match of the contest. That means this board has to come up with some kind of idea for the bonus match, because I don't think you want Bacon to run some boring poll that isn't a match. Ideally, we need to agree on a bonus match before the end of this week so the pic smiths have enough time to create match pictures.

So far, here are the current suggestions that I have seen mentioned in previous stats topics or on other topics from the board:

Link/Chester/Tanner - Just to see if Link can theoretically put up the same performance on Chester that is predicted by the final x-stats.

Sephiroth/Chester/Tanner - This is a match to test out the anti-voting factor here, to see if there is a minimum number of voters that are going to anti-vote Sephiroth in every single match he has. Obviously those anti-voting Sephiroth are unlikely to vote for one of the other 2 characters if they don't know who they are, so these voters will choose not to vote in this match.

Dark Link/Dark Samus/Shadow Mario - Since all 3 of these characters wouldn't have been allowed in the Character Battle. But it's a terrible idea as we want to see how strong Dark Link is and this match has no established characters to compare Dark Link to.

Dark Link/Near Elite/High Midcarder - The other 2 characters could be something like Vincent Valentine and Zero. This is a good match to test Dark Link's strength, as he could probably be close to Near Elite if he has even a fraction of Link's strength.

A match involving 3 characters that surprised us by not getting into the contest - For this match, we could have something like Liquid Snake, Chris Redfield, and Jecht in a match. You could substitute any of those characters for something else if you wanted to.

Anti-votes alone would prevent this. I have no doubt Chester (and Tanner) would have their values go up from this match.

My theory was that those were the "stuffed votes" Bacon found (which would probably work out to about 2:1 Tidus) but Banjo getting saddled with so many near 1% results from Indonesia makes me realize that may have been misguided.

I still find Bacon's reluctance to give actual numbers about anything suspicious, though. Like "we caught 2:1 vote stuffing on Tidus's behalf" could mean the new "anti-bot" measures caught like 15 votes for all we know. It's also suspicious that vote intake at night was so high given the vote totals. It was outdrawing Link's match which had a cumulative vote total well over 1000 ahead at the time. It was outdrawing PW's match by over 100 votes per hour despite having a nearly identical cumulative vote total.

Basically it's pretty likely there are stuffed votes out there given evidence, and if you're not totally braindead like Team Touhou you're still probably not going to be caught. Does that mean Tidus wins without them? Not necessarily. But to just accept what Bacon said at face value when he's historically been very bad at giving a damn about this stuff and implementing new site features is naivete I think, especially considering how little details he's given.

I wouldn't be surprised if the sophisticated anti-bot technology was just blocking a few extra ip ranges from known proxy servers.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/66965351/754414232

No, the percentages suggest that Indonesia had 252 votes, and one of the deciding factors in determining that it was 252 and not 126 is that Squall's match in particular only works with 257.

In fact, here are the minimums for the last 5 matches--note that this includes Marisa's match, a match with known stuffing.

Vivi vs. Marisa vs. Adam: 250
Ganondorf vs. Guybrush vs. Max Payne: 85
Squall vs. Rayman vs. Video: 257
Amaterasu vs. Vyse vs. Adol: 128
Missingno vs. Tidus vs. Banjo: 126

Now, consider the possibility that all three characters just happened to end up with an even number of votes in the last two matches, and a multiple of 3 in Ganondorf's match. Now it becomes:

Vivi vs. Marisa vs. Adam: 250
Ganondorf vs. Guybrush vs. Max Payne: 85*3=255
Squall vs. Rayman vs. Video: 257
Amaterasu vs. Vyse vs. Adol: 128*2=256
Missingno vs. Tidus vs. Banjo: 126*2=252

That's pretty damn consistent!

As AxemRedRanger pointed out, Banjo always does that type of thing in Indonesia and the Philippines. Something about the N64 being pretty much ignored over there because most of them were playing pirated games instead of legal ones and it was so much easier to pirate PS1 CDs than N64 cartridges.

If Corvo gets second I'll blame it on the pic. Since Red will be dominating so severely a pic advantage could make a difference. That's surely how Missile beat Kerrigan. Of course, Anime seems to be more powerful than a mask and sword when it comes to pic advantage.

I assumed the Missingno match had only 126 votes because I assumed Banjo only had one vote in Indonesia and its possible for Banjo to get 0.79% in a match with 126 votes from Indonesia.

I admitted that I calculated Squall's match incorrectly. You are right that there were 257 votes.
