Pokemon Go is bad news, but it's hilarious how old-school this site is. If it isn't from 1999 or earlier, this place does not play it.

Our strongest games came out after 1999. Also Draven came from League of Legends which is a 2009 game.

Those aren't "our" strongest games. Those are the strongest rallies.

I'm reasonably positive RBY would win a registered voters only contest.

Rallies are part of a game's strength. The games with the strongest rallies are our (no quotation marks necessary) strongest games.

Unrallied RBY over unrallied OoT is already crazy talk. Unrallied RBY over unrallied Chrono Trigger even more so.

Mass Effect 3 definitely isn't among the four strongest rallies.

Yeah, I wouldn't count Mass Effect 3 among our strongest games. While Undertale and Melee got rallied hard, Mass Effect 3 did not get rallied at all.

ME3 was clearly put there as a joke.

Another Pokemon GO related poll today. I'll be tracking this poll as well, which means I'll hold off on posting yesterday's trends until after today's poll ends.

Pokemon GO finished with a playrate of 33.15% in yesterday's poll. Although the playrate was being held back by the fact the game is only available in the US, Australia, and New Zealand. The playrate was 43.37% in the US, meaning there was about a 10% difference between the US and the rest of the world. I would expect another Pokemon GO playrate poll in the future after it's available in far more countries. The potential is there for the playrate to possibly break 50%, since I do expect the playrate within the US to increase even further and it will also increase in other countries when the game gets released there.

ME3 was a totally legit inclusion there, it got incredibly close to Undertale without rallying, so it's among the top 4 strongest games. Just not rallies.

Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of FFIV's Japanese release. Considering FFIV is Allen's favorite game, I assume he wouldn't pass up a chance to run a playrate or ownership poll tomorrow.

If the contest was now, a Pokemon would definitely win.

For sure. The problem is figuring out which one. There's like 10 Pokemon (maybe more) capable of making the finals.

Take this list of Pokemon in the original 151 that stand out to me: Pikachu, Mewtwo, Squirtle, Pidgey, Blastoise, Charmader, Charizard, Mew, Eevee, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, RATTATA IN MY HEART <3 RATS, Jigglypuff, Meowth, Alakazam, Goldeen, Scyther, Magmar, Gyarados, Snorlax, Porygon, Dragonite.

Would anyone be surprised if any of them went on a huge run? Hell I might be missing some. Electrode, Ivysaur, Venusaur, Ditto, Bulbasaur, Charmeleon, and Wartortle to name a few. That doesn't touch potential rallies from Pokemon past 151, either.

Just in looking at everything, here's that list for me: Pichu, Scizor, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Ho-oh, Lugia, Celebi, Mudkip, Skitty, Absol, Spheal, Latias, Latios, Groudon, Rayquaza, Deoxys, Starly, Bidoof, Shinx, Pachirisu, Buneary, Lopunny, Glameow, every single Eeveelution, Dialga, Palkia, Regigigas, Darkrai, Arceus, Victini, Purrloin... you get the idea. The potential for meme rallies and "aww so cute" from tumblr and Twitter is insane.

This isn't a joke, either. Look at the top 10 list right now. Not everyone is playing Pokemon Go, but everyone *is* playing Pokemon again. There's a bunch of people like me who won't play Go but are replaying the old games and rekindling that love from the early days of the series.

yoblazer believes that 100 Pokemon could win a match, but none could win a contest. Under the old rules, sure. But now, who would honestly be surprised if Glameow or Charmander or Eevee caught a rally and won a contest? Pokemon is overdue, anyway. Let them win one finally.

I'm sure we can limit the winner down to generation 1 Pokemon, because they're the ones that are big right now. Fire Red and Leaf Green being the games to get the biggest boost from it on the top 10 list only underlines that.

I'm sure a bunch of them could get rallies, but not in the nomiation phase, so we're probably looking at something like Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo, Squirtle, Blastoise, Jigglypuff and Magikarp as the top candidates. Maybe a few more would be able to advance into the field with the boost. But I still think either Pikachu or Mewtwo would be the winner.

Magikarp is literally the only pokemon whose rally would make me cringe. I f***ing hate that thing.

Why Goldeen?

Magikarp would probably be relatively easy to rally for even before Pokemon GO. Not among the core fanbase perhaps, but that large amount of outsiders that love making a joke of us would surely jump on a Magikarp rally. It could've probably dealt some good damage to the 2013 contest if it didn't draw Mega Man in round 1.

That's the only new contest idea that would work well as a mini-contest. I don't really see it working with more than 64 contestants, I mean you could easily do more but you'd be talking diminishing returns there since the latter 64 would pretty much be the starters/legendaries of all the gens not in the top half and the less-popular 151.

A Pokemon Character Battle as a 64 entrant mini-contest could work something like this:

Round 1 - 4 matches per day
Round 2 - 2 matches per day
Round 3 and beyond - 1 match per day

This would result in a 31 day contest (same length as the Villains/Series Contest).

I predict there would be at least one match solely decided on which Pokemon had type advantage. Possibly half of them.

Nah, character design alone isn't worth much if people have no idea what the hell you are.

Indeed, a character with an excellent design and personality doesn't mean much when they appear in a game that very few people have played.
