I was surprised at how low people predicted KOS-MOS to get. I mean, Aqua may have looked good in round 1, but she's definitely weaker than Riku!

i have no idea how the game did. just that in theory a new trailer should draw some attention to her, making her a tiny bit stronger then she was yesterday and will be again tomorrow.

Looks like it's taking a very long time for Shepard to get going. I know Shepard didn't start taking off until nearly 3:00 AM last round, but that was against a Nintendo character. Ryu isn't going to have the same kind of early vote that Nintendo has and Shepard is still struggling to gain percentage at this point.

Luigi does almost 3% better with registered users despite Frog getting a huge board vote advantage over Luigi.

Master Chief actually has the advantage with registered users, where he does about 1% better compared to anonymous users.

Mewtwo is almost 2.5% better with registered users, though it isn't reflected in the actual board vote (Tifa finished with a lower percentage than her freeze percentage).

MGS in general has done quite well among registered users, with only Zelda, Ridley, and Aqua winning the registered user vote over an MGS character to this point. Ocelot does 0.75% better with registered users in this match-up.

Ryu does have that Smash boost going for him. It could've helped him quite a bit.

Ryu beating Shepard is a damn travesty. Some boring, generic, fighting game character with zero personality beats one of the most known and easily one of the best self-insert RPG characters of all time. Gamefaqs always disappoints me with these contests.

Always so heavily biased with certain things, Nintendo, Final Fantasy and old school series like Street Fighter. I at least understand the Nintendo/FF bias, at least those are well defined characters with a ton of lore and personality, fighting game characters are nothing more than clean slate meat heads. Gamefaqs users are too heavily influenced by Nostalgia, always voting characters from the much older series, mainly games from the 90's/early 2000's.

I'm actually impressed with where Sephiroth is at this point in the match. He should steamroll overnight and leave Seph > Ryu bracketholders feeling reasonably confident. After all, if King K. Rool could give Shepard a genuine scare, Falcon should be able to trounce him easily.

Mass Effect fans abandoning the series is not just a GameFAQs thing. The series is dead because the fanbase at large turned their back on the series. Ryu is a pretty high mark to go after but Shepard in his prime would at least look threatening.

Also, I just want to say that BT appears to be right about Pokemon this year, because Mewtwo looked like absolute ass. Poor GlaDOS...

I'd take Captain Falcon over Shepard.

well yeah, he's been in the actual Smash games as opposed to being just in the trailer.

I, too, would take Captain Falcon over someone who is equal to King K. Rool

It's hard to see King K. Rool being stronger than Falcon which means Shepard being stronger is also a tough sell.

As well you should. He'd smoke K. Rool.

As we just saw with Ocelot, them narrowly beating characters we all anticipated were weak did not mean K. Rool and Dedede became good. It meant Ocelot and Shepard became bad.

Not looking too great for Squall at the moment, although we're at the point where Garrus>Shepard wouldn't even surprise me that much.

Didn't we mostly get FemShep in 2013? FemShep is a much better design imo

The FemShep fans are a very vocal minority. BioWare released ME3 player data that showed that an overwhelming number of players used MaleShep.

Well I mean most people using MaleShep doesn't necessarily mean he's stronger, especially if a lot of them aren't using the default design. Also you wouldn't necessarily always be more likely to vote for who you used either. Reasons to use MaleShep even if his design is inferior.

Like I think default FemShep is one of her better looks but MaleShep is pretty far down there.

But I guess I misremembered the distribution of his/her pics anyway in 2013

Yep. And the reason is MaleShep's voice actor is gutter trash.

The concept of a fodder line seems dumb to me because a character that can win a match isn't fodder by definition.

Pac-Man's strength is probably being inflated by this Voter Apathy Factor, but I would still wait until we have the full raw X-Stats to see how Pac-Man compares to Link before making any determination if Pac-Man has really boosted or not.

I think the jury should still be out for Bomberman, because he might be a huge benefactor on this voter apathy factor as well.

Ness or Shadow the Hedgehog might not be bad names, even if they are a bit stronger than the ideal benchmark. The nice thing about them is that they reliably make every contest, and most of the voter base should know who they are, and they are weak enough to drop to characters with some promise like 2B or Big Daddy back when Bioshock was something people cared about.

I don't know if voter apathy really helps Bomberman against Kefka. Kefka is really well known on this site.

When we are discussing fodder lines, I wouldn't want to use someone capable of fluctuating on this as little as possible, even if Kefka wasn't exactly a character he could take advantage of.

I think Lloyd (and Isaac) could beat KOS-MOS. He just wasn't handed the easiest, weakest fourpack of the contest.

Bomberman's probably going to be overrated this year because of going against Kefka, so I wouldn't suggest him if you want to use somebody for comparisons. Lloyd is an option, but he hasn't been that consistent (he's looked stronger in recent years). KOS-MOS might be a good choice. Isaac seems like a good choice. Wesker might be an option, too.

But if we want a fodder line consistent with Vyse in the past (2003/2004)... we might be aiming a little too high?
