A constant Civ 5 actually puts AC4 higher than AC2 when AC2 is supposed to be the strongest one. In this particular case I mean how strong AC2 was in 2015 since the entire series might be weaker today.

I don't know why you all were underrating DQXI. I've seen it beat Fire Emblem and Xenoblade in the switch board of all places

Dragon Quest is historically trash on this website, so even with a Switch port, Smash, etc. behind it some users didn't anticipate it being this strong.

Take from this whatever you want but based on 2015 stats, Ocarina would have gotten 80% on DQVIII

I don't have trouble buying DQXI being good; it felt like a breakout moment akin to Persona 5 for that series. I'm just baffled that it would stomp this hard on BotW's side of the division.

Assuming XI=VIII and a constant CT/FFX, what would a 69-31 for BotW mean against FFX? FFX is still a strong game outside of the big 5 (OoT/RBY/CT/FF7/ALttP)

FFX is expected to beat DQ8 with 73.8% (based on 2015 x-stats), so that would predict FFX beats BotW with 57.74% if 8 and 11 are equal.

I think the best explanation is that Hollow Knight has been gutter trash this whole time right along with FFXV

Do people still expect Hollow Knight to be a top indie game contender? Because if so, it looks like Bastion might not be so far off from the top (which I'd love to see).

Mind you, it still only just beat Walking Dead, which was Bottom 10 of the 2015 games contest during much better days for that series.

In my honest opinion, Dragon Quest XI has more to offer than Breath of the Wild did, when BoW first came out you only gotten 1/3 of the game and had to pay the other 2/3's of the game. As for Dragon Quest Xi, you get the full game, and a compelling story line.

I haven't played botw. what does this mean?

BotW had two DLC‘s

it means absolutely nothing. botw is about as complete of a game as you'll get without the dlc.

Perhaps they mixed up BotW with the FF7 remake.

As someone who hasn't been initially following things too much but decided to dig into the numbers a little bit and listen to the Show for my second chance bracket I can't make sense of this DQ11 number. Dragon Quest has just historically not done that well and if DQ11 was really the series breakout moment that's kind of bizarre to me because as a game it basically does nothing differently than the other ten games besides higher production values. Meanwhile 2018 Character Battle showed the Zelda franchise being at an all-time high. Maybe it's just BotW backlash?

I think I'm watching DMC5 the most. the biggest struggle I have with Odyssey is thinking about how DMC5 did reasonably well on it. if it can actually hang with some pretty good games, then that's something.

Thete haven’t been too many great JRPGs this gen so it was easy for DQ to fill that niche and become really popular

Does Skyrim have a bad board vote in PotDs as well?

Anecdotally, I think this is a part of its popularity. I have loved JRPGs for a long time but hadn't jumped into DQ (beyond emulation of really early games). However, DQXI was so well reviewed I checked it out, and it quickly became one of my games of the generation.

Perhaps I'm the only one who experienced this - again, anecdotes count for nothing - but DQXI was a great game at the right time.

Looking at the previous versions of this poll, it doesn't seem like that's the case. However, FFVII has been documented to have a bad board vote in PotDs, which supports the fact that its bad early vote isn't caused by anti-votes but from early voters being less likely to have played the game.

I'm curious can anyone tell how well DQ11 would do against Persona 5 for comparison?

I'd be shocked if DQXI doesn't beat DQVIII based on today's performance. 70% on DQVIII would be a terrible result for BotW, when Chrono Cross of all games can do 62% on it.

DQ11 losing to DQ8 would be massively disappointing for 11. 8 is not at all a strong game.

I'm not super familiar on the DQ hierarchy. Would it be unusual for DQ11 to be stronger than DQ8?

DQ8's claims to fame are failing to break 40% against one of the most divisive games Square has ever released, getting 55% on a game about as strong as Civilization 4, and getting dumpstered by Chrono Cross. I would take 30% on BotW to be a way better result than any of those.
