While I'm utterly pissed Halitosis of the Wild made it to the finals - it's an incredibly boring game that forces limitations onto the player, and doesn't live up to previous "Legend of Zelda" games like Twilight Princess, The Wind Waker, A Link Between Worlds, Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening - I'm also upset about some other losses.

Back when Bravely Default was released, and for a good few years afterwards, I absolutely adored that game; I saw it as one of the best JRPGs, with deep combat, wonderful characters, a great narrative, and wonderfully-designed locations. However, recently, I've become able to see just how tedious and repetitive it gets, both trying to fully level every Job, and the lategame. So while I don't like Monster Hunter - I see that series as yet another resource-grinder, something I don't have the patience for - I can see how Bravely Default lost to it. Not happy about it, but this loss I can understand.

Don't get how Halitosis of the Wild beat Dragon Quest XI, either. Disgusting.

Also, Horizon: Zero Dawn beating Borderlands 2. How? The latter, from what I can tell, has the more engaging gameplay, better characters, and has male player characters; Borderlands 2 should have won.

DOOM vs Resident Evil 2...is this the original DOOM, or 2016's DOOM (or, as some call it, "DOOM 4")?

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate beating A Link Between Worlds is rubbish. One's a multiplayer-focused game with nothing to offer solo players (whether they're solo by choice, or not), while the other is a wonderful, fleshed-out singleplayer game with so much to offer. Not happy with this outcome either.

Octopath Traveller beating Undertale makes no sense either. The first game has a very bland story with uninteresting characters and a poor man's take at Bravely Default combat; the second game has excellent characters, fun gameplay, and three different endings. How did the first game win?

I am glad Super Mario Galaxy 2 lost to Witcher 3, though; the vast majority of Wii games are unplayable garbage due to a dependency on dysfunctional motion controls, and the Galaxy duo have their own design failures to boot (such as limiting Mario to 3 HP, being quite linear, and having unlikeable characters - looking at you, Rosalina).

I hope Persona 5 wins. It's, once again, a fantastic JRPG with (mostly) wonderful characters, narrative, locations, etc.

I'm not happy Xenoblade Chronicles 2 lost to Batman: Arkham City, of all things. The latter's slow and dull, while the former has wonderful characters, combat, narrative and locations. Sure, it does have its flaws (gacha, some Affinity Chart nodes, a handful of Quests, etc.), but it's still a much more enjoyable time than Arkham City ever was.

Lastly, Pokemon HeartGold (as in, back when Pokemon was actually great and worth purchasing and playing, though Black/White 2 are much better than HeartGold/SoulSilver) vs Skyrim. Err...the latter has a largely empty open-world, gets repetitive, has limited stamina (though thankfully not weapon/shield fragility), and an overabundance of Quests. Oh, and is incredibly buggy, even now - despite being rereleased on practically every single console imaginable.
How could it beat HeartGold/SoulSilver, which have a much more concise design, a smaller and much more memorable world, more enjoyable gameplay, and almost no programming flaws?

Not quite that bad. 77 and 56, currently scoring 86 for the day. I don't know why I had BotW that high, it is definitely an outlier compared to my other picks and was probably a mistake. Still probably will be good enough to stick around the bottom of the top 50, but not likely I get back to the top now.

You might. Persona 5 winning would destroy something like 90% of the brackets ahead of you.

Definitely. There's a few of us P5 backers, but I can't imagine Persona 5 pulling the big upset, but then choking to Skyrim or Dark Souls. If Skyrim pans out in that fashion, you can afford to cede a lot of ground.

I would have been doing a lot of disrespecting -- I already took The Witness to beat Yakuza 0. Crusader Kings 2 wouldn't have have a chance in my mind, and like...I would have flip-flopped against some of the other indie games there not named Hotline Miami which I would have been sure would beat it.

Yeah, Yakuza 0 got me all f***ed up.

Diablo III and Bioshock Infinite would have definitely caught me off guard. I think I would have regarded Rocket League or DBZ as coinflips like their actual encounter was. Everything else is complete fodder in Div 7 and Yakuza passes the eye test even pre-contest.

Twilight Princess doesn't have any unnecessary limitations, like stamina, temperature, or fragility. It's also got a better Hyrule, better sidequests, better dungeons, better characters, better items, better combat - better everything, really. Twilight Princess is undoubtedly a "Legend of Zelda" game; Halitosis of the Wild is unquestionably not.

I don't know what you mean by "Black turtle", but those are my honest opinions over the brackets and the games. They're just "awful" to you because you have different opinions, no doubt.

I know what I like, and what I don't. There's no need to call my preferences "awful".

Twilight Princess is the hardest railroading Zelda game. Others at least allow you to explore more off the beaten path and come up with a sensible use for your tools outside of their dungeons.

Zant was the best thing going for it until the end. At least the final fight was cool.

TP had the worst sidequests of any 3d zelda game. You collect s***ty bugs. The overworld was empty as f***. It had some of the most boring and arduous dark world segments/wolf link and the game was just a dungeon simulator until the end. Good dungeons but the game was disjointed. Characters like zant? Who turned into a b**** at the end. What a waste of a potentially decent character.

you can have your s***ty opinion if you want. Dont come out and say TP had better sidequests when that is just an absolutely idiotic statement.

the only thing unquestionable is your garbage taste and lack of knowledge on the actual games

I know I'm late to the conversation of the top 10 games in this field, but it's an interesting enough topic that I wanted to give my two cents anyways. (Plus, it's not like there's anything compelling being discussed right now.)

1. Breath of the Wild (obviously)
2. The Witcher 3 (almost as obviously, in my opinion, with mildly SFF'd God of War being about on par with mildly SFF'd Xenoblade and non-SFF'd HGSS)
3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4. Super Mario Odyssey
5. Persona 5
6. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (all nearly on par, I'd say, but I think the back half of Division 8 is still being overrated)
7. Dark Souls (needed an incredible stroke of good luck just to exceed 58% on The Last of Us, and 63% on MGSV is likewise much worse than 64% on Spider-Man and 61% on Mario Kart 8, so I don't take it to even be in the same tier as 3-6)
8. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (I have tremendous respect for The Witcher 3's strength this contest, so almost breaking 40% on it is very impressive to me)
9. God of War (I think this is where the floodgates open - the preceding eight games are all practically surefire top 10 placers, but there's a clump of several close games from here on down)
10. Portal 2 (I'm still unsure what exactly the Witcher 3/Persona 5 percent will look like, but I know the former will have to shoot for the moon to make Portal 2 look bad)

Dragon Quest XI, Mass Effect 2, and Xenoblade are all very close honorable mentions, and then I think the likes of Resident Evil 2, Link Between Worlds, Persona 4 Golden, Red Dead Redemption, and Pokémon HGSS are all 1-2 percentage points below those three. The Last of Us was also a top 10 contender based on its pre-leak results, but not anymore.

Those divisoin 2 stats look like a mess.

Which has absolutely been the case for over ten years for each, so I don't get the "basically become" wording.

Also that said sentiment seems to have grown over the years, especially lately.
