The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild vs. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Registered Vote Result: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 6316 (66.84%) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 3133 (33.16%) Anonymous Vote Result: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 5571 (69.93%) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 2395 (30.07%) Smash Ultimate was favored by registered users by about 3%. BotW was not really expected to do better with registered users cause we are more likely to vote against Zelda games (and Link) if they are seen as the clear favorite to win the contest. It's also quite impressive that BotW exceeded the percentage it got against Mario Odyssey directly in the 2017 GotY polls despite being hurt by the registered user bonus here. Without the registered user bonus, BotW gets 68.26% instead of 67.76%. Despite being an SFF match, the vote totals came very close to setting a record for highest vote totals recorded after the contest returned from the break. This match got only slightly less than the Witcher/Persona and DS/Skyrim match day. sure we'll know which game is stronger (most likely, since rsff is super

i'd love some bonus matches between losers in the top 8 of this contest too Smash ultimate vs..anything really. who knows how good ultimate is even after all these matches? Persona 5 vs Dark Souls also sounds super interesting |

I actually never considered the loser of the final vs. Brawl as an idea for a bonus match. With that suggestion, we have 3 solid bonus match suggestions with room for one more match to give us a full slate of 4 bonus matches. As it stands right now, our current bonus match suggestions: Breath of the Wild vs. Majora's Mask The Witcher 3 vs. Brawl Smash Ultimate vs. Skyrim The only other idea I can come up with for a bonus match is Persona 5 vs. FFX for a battle between the top JRPGs of the 2000s and 2010s. I would be loathe to waste a bonus match slot on Brawl. Maybe purely

agree that BotW vs. MM and a third-place match are the only obvious
options. I'm not sure we need to see something arbitrary for the sake of
having another bonus match, and I definitely don't want one of the
biggest question marks of the next all-inclusive game contest spoiled. On another note, I've finally located why my gut feeling is Zelda 1 > Mario 1 even though direct 2009 results say the opposite. To put it simply, the Zelda series has never been in a better place than right now thanks to BotW and its upcoming sequel, and part of the reason people like BotW so much is all the cues it took from Zelda 1. In contrast, the Mario series and even Nintendo in general is in a similar place now to where it was in 2009. Heck, the consistent overperformances by (non-Galaxy) Mario games were arguably the big story of 2009, whereas the Zelda series, stuck as it was in a gulf between entries, didn't look all that impressive. I'm not exactly hard-pressed to believe that's reversed nowadays, and that's all it takes for Zelda 1 > Mario 1 directly and indirectly. I'll admit that saying that Zelda 1's held up better was the wrong way to put it, though, as that brings to mind aspects other than pure contest strength. That
Zelda theory sounds good and could prove true in time -- maybe it's
becoming that time -- but the NES is Mario's system and I don't think
he's giving it up in a SMB1/LoZ-match as long as we still have so many
users in their thirties or older here. If we get younger users more

we end up getting bonus matches after the final, I would prefer if the
registered user bonus is in effect for those matches. Even though they
aren't officially part of the contest, it's good to be consistent with

In contrast, the Mario series and even Nintendo in general is in a similar place now to where it was in 2009. no way, Mario is in a way better place now thanks to the success of Odyssey Mario games bombed left and right in GOTD because the franchise wasn't in a good place and people did not like the Wii Mario games basically rise with the tide of how people feel about a Nintendo system. People didn't like the Wii by the end, so the Galaxy games end up mid-tier. People love the Switch, so Odyssey does well. People still fondly remember the NES, so Mario 1 would still beat Zelda 1.
