I wonder if BotW would still have been this powerful if Nintendo didn't decide to throw ALttP/OoT design choices in most of the Zelda games for so long and innovated the series much sooner.

I think a really good classic Zelda would have been huge and won the contest anyway (or maybe TW3 could win it 50.5-49.5) - BOTW being what it is just removed all doubt and took it to the next level. Skyward Sword was a bit of a whiff (out very late in Wii life cycle, motion controls, felt rather sparse and a little rough) so it'd basically been a decade since a really clean landing for a mainline Zelda.

Hope it beats Majora's Mask so there's some reason to think it can do real damage in the next BGE contest - it's probably the only game from this decade that's a serious threat to do so (with great bracket placement TW3 could too, but seeding might be an issue for it).

Since you're here, please give us Skyrim vs. Smash Ultimate tomorrow night as a second bonus match. Having a third place match between the semifinal losers is a very reasonable idea for a bonus match. We don't really need any other bonus matches beyond that one and the contest winner vs. Majora's Mask.

So... if Galaxy is constant between 2015 and today, 2015's Ocarina would get 63.6% on today's The Witcher.

Just to put things into perspective because I think BotW will not be far from that.

I think while BoTW will never come close to beating OoT, against anything else they'll perform about the same.

Yeah, I'm not seeing Majora's Mask taking BotW either, unless the OoT fans break heavily for it. But for them BotW seems like the more natural choice, given how that game is maybe the first truly landmark Zelda to have come out after OoT, while MM was "only" a brilliant side-story. And MM being such a unique Zelda game counts for less now that BotW almost completely did away with the traditional Zelda formula.

I'm rooting for Majora's Mask. but I'm not optimistic.

Fire Emblem is the worst and I hate it

*I think I initially had RE2 > ME2 and switched to ME2 > Awakening so that was still a net gain but I'd rather just blame everything on FE

I’m just stating the facts. Anything with a Nintendo logo on it would win a GF contest. If Adventure of Link or Wand of Gamelon were the only Nintendo game in the tournament, it’d beat out a GOTY winner.
