It gave Cloud enough votes to reverse his loss to Zelda.

Once people started going vocal about not thinking BotW was the best thing ever

We saw how much that impacted it in GotD2!

(Seriously though, I don't think Zelda would be as strong now as she was in 2018. That felt like new release hype more than anything sustainable

Cloud never lost to Zelda! He only lost to Link, and they both beat Mario, so he didn't need any "backlash" to beat her.

I thought at least one match was directly reversed. Maybe it was just a stats thing?

Mega Man / Pikachu flipped. I think that was the only one that did.

That whole losers bracker was stupid anyway. It's usually set up to avoid people facing off again until as late as possible in a bracket.

Mario/Samus SHOULD have flipped but that Mario "clutch" came through again.

Meanwhile, I'm amused at how even the curve of the results is in the 2020 poll.

Also, they haven't changed the wording of the options ever since this poll started back in 2012. As a result, there has been a sharp increase in the percentage of the "Classic" and "Ancient" options due to their cut-offs being at 10 and 20 years. Even the "Pretty old" and "Not too old" options have gone up in percentage over the history of this poll. The real losers are the newer options, as they're doing even worse today compared to the earlier versions of this poll. This suggests that a lot of users on this site are rather slow in getting around to playing the newest games, only getting around to playing them more than a year after their original release date.

So I read this thing that in Australia Sony got a fine because they refused to refund some gamers.

But my question is this. How exactly refund works? I mean I can buy a game, finish it in a couple of days and ask a refund? Is this legal? Is there a time limit? What else should be done?

Consumer laws in Australia are no joke. Either Sony figures it out or they get fined again.

The trends for yesterday's poll actually turned out to be very unremarkable and not what I was expecting to see. I was expecting to see trends more closely resembling the "how often do you visit GameFAQs" poll, as seen here - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14PmFnPgwYASnutdjA905NiOFiQLjl3k_gseE3lVMeCo/pub?gid=1261620550

Unfortunately, that didn't happen here. The first 2 options in yesterday's poll remained somewhat consistent over the course of the entire poll. There were still trends in this poll, but they came in the form of age-based trends and there were even some Geolocation trends as well.

It shouldn't be too much of a surprise that a poll revolving around how long you have been visiting GameFAQs would have age-based trends here. Going off what we know from the age poll, the early vote has the highest percentage of younger voters and this was clearly seen in the early vote for "More than 10 years", which had an excellent board vote and also performed very well during the Power Hour as well. The morning vote was also the worst time period for "More than 10 years", which is also the time period that has the oldest voters on average based on past age polls.

"More than 20 years" performed worst during the board vote, though its Power Hour was only slightly worse than average. With the early vote known to favor the younger voters to a greater extent than all of the other time periods, this would clearly work against "More than 20 years". This option is also affected by Geolocation trends, as it performs worst during the night vote. Looking at the Geolocation trends here, we see that "More than 20 years" is very strong in the US and Canada (both over 35%) while being extremely weak outside of the US and Canada. "More than 20 years" has less than 30% in almost every country in Europe, even the UK which is an English speaking country. Due to this option's strength base being more concentrated in the US and Canada, it ends up performing best during the late morning vote and day vote.

"More than 5 years" and "More than a year" both have similar trends in their good early vote and night vote, but they do perform worst during the second half of the poll. Geolocation trends also played a role in the strong night vote, as both options fared much better in Europe compared to the US and Canada.

So how would people interpret Other's continual strong performance in this poll every time it's run?
If even Microsoft is under 1%, it strongly suggests nothing from this millennium could be contributing anything noteworthy to Other.
Atari doing so well means I could maybe buy about half of Other being from its pre-crash console competitors. But what else is there that mattered at all that the other options don't cover? At that point you're left with total dregs.
I think the real answer is probably that many people aren't interpreting "video game system" to necessarily mean "video game console." Other is doing extremely well in the U.K. and I know their early home gaming scene was dominated by home computers of the era like the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum.

I can finally see why people like their Zeldas so much. You always remember your first time.

BTW, I voted expecting Nintendo to double Sony, then seeing the rest fall in line; but seeing Sega over Sony and Atari over Sega really shows GameFAQs's userbase age.

I guess GameFAQs can at least be proud of having an overly complete gaming experience across all generations.

I imagine GameFAQs does not have a "complete gaming experience" in regards to newer games

The more I look at Atari's performance the more "Other" is making sense. The Atari 2600 had around a 75% market share which would translate to around 5-6% performance here.

Big Crono vs. Waluigi fight in today's poll!

Was gonna vote Crono until I saw Squall in the poll. Glad I gave him my vote because hes doing horrible. Squall deserves better.

I was gonna vote 2B until i saw Squall.

I know this poll probably won't influence Nintendo's choice of future DLC, but man I hope Crono wins the poll over Waluigi, because he'd be a really good choice.

actually i’ll rephrase: none of these characters are anywhere near my first choice for Smash. I would like some of them, but I think the poll options are bad.

best: Crono is a decent idea

good but unrealistic: Alucard. no way they would actually add another distinct Castlevania character but he’s cool and good

yeah ok: Dante and Sora are both significant and I like their games well enough but I wouldn’t get too excited about them

maybe not: geralt and 2B. Also like them and their games but just don’t feel like they deserve it... but also I would definitely get pretty hyped for 2B because I am a hypocrite

no don’t: Kratos and Master Chief are the competition, also I think Kratos is too violent for Smash and wouldn’t be the right Sony rep anyway... but again I would hypocritically get hyped for Chief

no really don’t: Sephiroth and Squall. if they’re going to include another FF character it definitely shouldn’t also be from 7 and 8 doesn’t make sense as the next choice

dumb: Waluigi. I love Waluigi. Waluigi should not be in Smash Bros. He doesn’t matter.

I'm so happy to see someone share this thought with me on contests lol.

That said, Goku in Smash might be where I hypocritically get hyped, because there's just no way I could not get hyped from seeing Goku jumping in to fight all these characters and if that trailer actually dropped my nostalgia googles would be glued to my face.

Sephiroth and Squall are also examples of my hypocrisy to be sure, because I agree with what you said but I'd go crazy at the same time.

I don't find Kratos and Chief very likely, but I'd love them both. They made Snake fit in pretty well by just not having him use most of the weapons, I'm sure Kratos would fit in fine too.

I'd love for Crono to be in, that was my vote too. I'd also love Dante and I think the chances are somewhat good there.

I'd be fine with Geralt or 2B, but I have yet no play those games, so I don't care much yet.

Waluigi would also be fine, but if Mario needs another character, it's god damn Toad, and I've thought this since they showed Wario in the first Brawl trailer.

I'm mixed about Sora. He's probably the character I'm least interested in seeing there.

also Banjo was on the last poll (replaced by Geralt on this poll) and now he's in Smash, and a character from ARMS is supposed to be next, so Spring Man was replaced by Dante, so maybe one (or more) of these lucky characters will be next

Honestly Waluigi is such a widespread joke about being in Smash that the internet just wants him in only to go “meh” if/when he actually gets in, like Ridley.

We were supposed to get Smash news sometime this month right

the one way i’m on board for Waluigi is if they release him for free as the last character and he’s basically just a Dan version of Luigi. pure joke.

The first poll happened right after the trailer that showed Daisy as playable and seconds later Waluigi as an assist trophy and he got to be the example of them showing you can now KO assist trophies. I think that fueled it a lot lol. Also being the one joke in a poll with that many obviously helps.

Yeah, Waluigi is pretty much a meme. It also helps that he's the only Nintendo option in that poll.

Personally the next Mario character I want is Paper Mario, but at this point we are scraping the bottom of the barrel for non-third party characters for Smash so I'm pretty neutral on Waluigi.

There are still lots of viable Pokemon and some Fire Emblem characters they could add.

Dixie Kong is a big omission. :(

As far as Nintendo characters go, it's kinda crazy that Toad's not in Smash. He's definitely the biggest one not to be playable.

I mean there are thousands of Nintendo characters you could add, but we have reached the point of diminishing returns. Anything that isn't a brand new creation is simply throwing a bone to a small fanbase.
