I'm assuming that isn't the actual score of the match, and it makes X-Stats difficult when I don't have a real score!

I really didn't expect this outcome when I made the poll of favorite R1 goners. I was so sure there was a general superhero hierarchy of some sort, where Batman > Spider-Man > Superman was a thing.

It's especially weird since I would never take Lex Luthor over Venom in a direct match.

Yeah, the only game that's different by more than 1% is Super Mario RPG and that might change over the day as the European vote gets more diluted.

Well, I was talking about SNES games in general. Chrono Trigger, FFIV/, FFVI, etc., are also not strictly Nintendo.

And SCIV has untested power. It wouldn't be that strong, but it's one of the most recognizable games in the series.

Pretty much. Castlevania suffers from having its fanbase too fragmented.

Sooo yeah, F-Zero definitely not winning and I'd feel pretty darn confident in Captain Falcon winning.

As of right now, FFIV has a playrate of 64.40%. For comparison, here's the most recent playrate poll for FFVI:

FFVI has a playrate of 67.93%. FFIV's playrate is only slightly lower than FFVI, but the game is far weaker than FFVI.

I played FFIV on GBA when it came out, I absolutely loved it. FFIV, V and VI are all great IMO, but for whatever reason FFVI gets all the love and respect. FFV is especially underrated.

It was already too late for FFII, III, and V to have a notable impact on people once they finally came overseas.

I definitely have different answers for this poll if you include games bought for less than $5.

PS5 is riding that high hardware expense to a comfortable victory here.

PS4 won the earlier version of yesterday's poll in both 2018 and 2016, so I doubt the cost of the PS5 hardware is making a difference in the winner of the poll. In fact, the PS4/5 option won yesterday's poll over the PC by a smaller margin (by percentage) compared to PS4 in the 2018 poll even after factoring in the release of the PS5 recently.

So I was napping and dreaming that I was gonna ask you: “Which game will be on the running to beat Doom Eternal for the GOTY polls?” (obviously implying that Doom Eternal was the favorite).

I also dreamed that I told someone that Assassin's Creed Valhalla was probably going to be just a little weaker than Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but that I could be mistaken.

Now that I've thought about it, I bet our GOTY here will be Animal Crossing.

Yeah, FFVIIR losing here would be a major flop, but AC will probably make things uncomfortable for it.

Cyberpunk should be able to beat AC at least!

With the delays Cyberpunk 2077 needs to actually come out and work well before I'll give it a shot.

Animal Crossing seems like the type of game that'll do well but will choke at the last minute because the site doesn't want it actually be our GotY.

I can imagine FFVII going into the final GOTY poll against Animal Crossing, and Cloud seeing Isabelle and saying "kagate koi".

I can't really argue with the polls here. FFVIIR wins, not sure who gets second between AC and Cyberpunk.
