Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1365

I just checked the front page of Game Spot and it's mostly game related stuff. I never really frequented the site outside of their character battles so I'm not sure how this compares to before.

That's one of the reasons I feel we should allow these characters in the Character Battle.

Because betting agaisnt them is a very viable strategy.

I tried that excuse to drum up support for Dark Link. People don't care for it much. If they turn out to be strong, they crash the party. If they are weak, why did we add them in the first place?

Has any site or platform younger than us done a character contest before? Curious how Gen Z would vote.

I've caught myself playing Triple Triad for some hours. Might be the best FF mini-game (competition isn't exactly the best). Simple but nice.

So projected through Ms Pacman, Mario gets 97.5% on Sephiroth.

Well, based on how badly DK is beating Chun-Li, I think we can just chalk that up to SF not being as popular there as it is here.

They should not be. It only makes sense in The Ringer's battle because they're a sports website and Tyson, Hawk, Vick are important characters in sports games history. (Where was QB Eagles, though?)

What would Mike Tyson's contest strength be vs. Mr. Dream?

Would it be dependent on the match pic?

I imagine they would have to use in-game pictures for Mike Tyson (or any other real person).

Regardless, I imagine Tyson would crush Mr. Dream, I would take several other Punch-Out boxers over Mr. Dream

Round 1 X-Stats are literally just the results

But we don't have combined vote totals anywhere so it's really not possible to do total X-Stats. I could do X-Stats for the main site + Twitter, but they wouldn't necessarily match the overall results.

Looks like Ryu did beat Fox making Ryu one of the few non-Nintendo characters to beat a Nintendo character. We're pretty close to being able to hold the Top 8 in a single SSBU match but Tony Hawk might be too strong.

Mario vs DK gonna get real ugly next round. I don't think anyone outside Link can hold Mario under 70%.

It's kind of surprising since Samus was extremely powerful in the previous rounds. Though it's not shocking since The Chief is a severely downgraded gaming icon here and Samus is probably stronger than ever.

We also have to take into account that there seems to not exist any kind of hierarchic rule, as proven by the Mario division with Ms. Pac-Man and Sephiroth. I'd rest assured Sephy would put at least 30% more directly on Mario.

I'd say there's still a hierarchy because Mario may have SFF'd Ms. Pac-Man hardcore.

Sephiroth would still get crushed though since he got doubled as is. On such a casual site, I'd wager Mario triples like 90% of all characters they'd put against him at bare minimum.

I wouldn't call The Ringer strictly a sports site. It's about half sports, half pop-culture. For every in-depth sports analytical article, there's a completely random article about things like reliving Will Smith's Wild Wild West performance at the 99 MTV Music Video Awards where he rode in on a horse for no damn reason at all lol.

Most of the writers are between 30-40 years old. They write about gaming quite a bit actually.

I think Sonic beats Yoshi because my gut reaction is that Pac-Man beats Ryu (or at least comes very close).
