Yeah, it's kinda wild looking at that bracket and realizing this is what CJayC thought was the most popular. Of course, we had no idea then either! |
AxemRedRanger posted... -Spyro couldn't flip the 2002 result against Morrigan in 2013 but he got much closer and 2018 seemed to indicate a major strength boost for him thanks in part to the Spyro trilogy remaster being imminent. Marvel vs. Capcom franchise is pretty cold now too. I think the kiddies would finally wake up. I mean, characters like Crash, Spyro, and Tails got a great boost all around in 2018... But you also gotta remember Chun-Li, Tifa, and the beastly 2B. azuarc - Good friend, VGM lover, Guru Champion. I pass my baton on to you! |
Based
on old contests CJayC ran prior to 2002, he did seem to have a thing
for fighting games. Like we had Mario all on his lonesome, but three
King of Fighters characters were in that bracket. Of course if SBAllen ever did a contest where he only took Board 8's suggestions we would have a lot of fodder and snubs. Congratulations to azuarc for winning the guru challenge |
I
wonder if part of that is people going 'okay yeah Mario is obviously
the most popular Mario character' but having loud angry debates about
the most popular character from stuff like King of Fighters. Not a stinky alien. :( Nintendo Switch Code: SW-5719-6555-8388 |
Hasn't
Terry always been number 1 for King of Fighters? Also it doesn't
explain why Sub-Zero is missing when Scorpion is in. Especially when
Sub-Zero is actually more popular then Scorpion. My bracket looked like random picks compared to his. Congrats to azuarc for winning the GotD 2020 Guru Contest! |

If there's anything true about GameFAQs, it was a seething hatred for anything considered casual, so Mortal Kombat (and especially Sub-Zero) might have taken the brunt of that in the face of 'true' fighting games. I
think that's more of a "recent" thing. Even as late as 2010 we were
will to vote a CoD game as GotY. I don't think we ever applied it to MK
either. It's still a fighting game so it's hardcore enough. My bracket looked like random picks compared to his. Congrats to azuarc for winning the GotD 2020 Guru Contest! |

Yesmar_ posted... The original Sonic games were a product of the Genesis's more "arcadey" approach to console gaming, and eventually consumers wanted something more "immersive." I think that Sega's problem is that instead of leaning into that arcade style consistently, or blowing up the gameplay of a Sonic game completely, they've tried to split the difference between that sensibility and a more modern one, to frequently unsatisfying ends. This is a pretty solid take, and also explains why Sonic Mania was so f***ing good compared to every other Sonic game that's come out since 3/Knuckles Props to azuarc, the current Guru of the Decade. What
a poll we have today. Following in the footsteps of the mid-year "Got

This
poll is currently displaying strong Geolocation trends, with the top
option rapidly bleeding percentage right now. The US has one of the
highest vaccination rates in the world, and we can see that Europe is
lagging well behind the US. Well, for the fully vaccinated rate, at
least. Overall vaccination rate doesn't seem to be significantly
different between the US and Europe, it's just that Europe has more
partially vaccinated people than fully vaccinated. Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as azuarc, Guru Champ! (edited 7/9/2021 3:38:04 AM)report |
Finally
got my second dose yesterday. It's actually been impressive how
absolutely garbage the Canadian government was with acquiring vaccines
for the first half of the vaccine rollout, and how quickly we've caught
up to have the highest partial vaccine in the world, and are closing in
on the best countries for fully vaxxed Props to azuarc, the current Guru of the Decade. Wear this title with pride! |

Advokaiser posted... Less than 3% have had Covid? No, you can't draw those numbers, because people getting vaccinated can have had it too and they're probably more likely to vote for those options if they fit both. how many got COVID without *any* symptoms? there are lots of research out there showing for the young, many are asymptomatic. I don't know what the fatality rate is but risk of death under 40 is much much lower than those in older people. most deaths in the US are by far in 60+ year old people. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm#SexAndAge regardless, it's nice to see GameFAQs users getting vaccinated. ... |
I
don't have a link handy, but I remember a news story out of I believe
New York where they did random antibody tests outside a supermarket, and
the number of people that had antibodies was surprisingly high. I was actually at an industry conference in the UK last February just as news was starting to come out of China, and I actually suspect I caught it because my wife had a really bad cold right after I got home from London. It was a really weird experience because no western countries had recorded or publicized cases yet so no one was taking the usual precautions at that point, but there was some drama as some of the companies were cancelling meetings with Chinese customers. Once the counties we were importing from stopped hoarding (I don't blame them, any country should want to protect its own citizens first) we then went in hyperdrive. In a few months we went from mid-low tier vaccination rate to number 1 for first dose and currently number 5 for second dose among major nations (ie not small islands/subdivisions of other countries). We'll pass Germany in the coming days while the UK and USA may be passed by the end of the month. Congratulations to azuarc for winning the guru challenge |
Poll updates and trend charts for yesterday's poll: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12Slg_QcsT3JUHx2e_EY4R49UkqJT2RIe_KDCuvW7kug/pub?gid=2075541020 "Yes, I'm fully vaccinated" had a slightly above average board vote and Power Hour. Based on what happened during the ASV and SNV, I would have expected a stronger Power Hour than this. There is one explanation as to why the Power Hour wasn't as strong as expected, and that is the combined influence of Asia and Oceania subduing "Yes, I'm fully vaccinated" during this time period as both continents have a very low fully vaccinated rate. The influence of Canada and Mexico during this time also played a lesser role here. The night vote was easily the worst time period for this option, and it performed best during the late morning vote, ASV, and SNV. This option also had the most extreme trends, with the trends being Geolocation related. "Yes, I'm fully vaccinated" had a maximum percentage of 61.65% at 12:10 AM EST. After that point in time, it lost a total of 10.10% to reach its lowest percentage of 51.55% at 7:10 AM. From the low point of 51.55%, it then gained a total of exactly 6% to finish with a final percentage of 57.55%. "Yes, I'm fully vaccinated" lost a grand total of 3 updates to "No, not as far as I know", with the first cut happening at 3:40 AM (1 vote cut), followed by another 1 vote cut at 7:25 PM and a 3 vote cut at 9:10 PM. It also lost 2 updates to "Almost, I'm partially vaccinated", with a 3 vote cut happening at 4:40 AM and a 2 vote cut at 9:10 PM. "Almost, I'm partially vaccinated" had a terrible board vote, Power Hour, ASV, and SNV. It performed best during the night vote and early morning vote. "No, not as far as I know" performed best during the board vote, Power Hour, and night vote. It begins dropping off a bit once the morning vote starts, and easily performs worst during the ASV and SNV. The 2 least popular options, "Yes, confirmed case of COVID" and "Maybe, I did get sick", end up having the least pronounced trends out of all the options here. "Yes, confirmed case of COVID" performs best during the late morning vote, ASV, and SNV. While "Maybe, I did get sick" does best during both night vote periods. As for the Geolocation trends, the US really stands out with their extremely high fully vaccinated rate in combination with a extremely low partially vaccinated rate. Canada and the UK have a higher overall vaccination rate than the US in terms of getting at least 1 dose of any vaccine, but far less voters in Canada and the UK have completed their second dose. The rest of Europe outside of the UK is notable for having a much higher partially vaccinated rate than the US while having a lower fully vaccinated rate. In general, Europe as a whole has a lower overall vaccination rate compared to the US, although some countries like the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Turkey stand out for exceeding the US in getting at least 1 dose of any vaccine. A few other countries in Europe like France, Italy, Austria, Finland, and the Czech Republic also have fairly high vaccination rates above 60% already. Countries with extremely low vaccination rates include Australia and New Zealand (under 20% for both). South America generally has an low vaccination rate in general, ranging from around 10% to 40% for most of the countries there. Chile is an outlier here, with an extremely high vaccination rate over 80%. Similarly to South America, Asia also has somewhat low vaccination rates in general, with the exception of China (58.33%), Hong Kong (71.43%), Saudi Arabia (86.66%), and Indonesia (63.16%). The countries worst affected by COVID in the results were Russia, Hungary, Poland, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Indonesia, all of which were above 5% for "Yes, I've already had a confirmed case of COVID". LusterSoldier posted... The countries worst affected by COVID in the results were Russia, Hungary, Poland, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Indonesia, all of which were above 5% for "Yes, I've already had a confirmed case of COVID". Considering the particularly extreme collapse of the medical system in Italy a year ago, and that Mexico has taken things extremely lightly, it makes complete sense. It may come off as a surprise, but a lot of confirmed deceased cases in Mexico have come from young people (ages 15-30). This partially comes down to them being the least preoccupied on the matter (mainly by being sold to the idea that Covid only really affects the elderly), and that places like nightclubs have been open for some months now and without any kind of restrictions. They're also the ones who travel most to the beach, etc. In fact, ever since the first panic state of "brace yourselves... the deadly coronavirus from China is coming" was over, people gradually started doing their normal activities like nothing happened, and the population's confidence has only gone higher by being vaccinated. The only thing I see is everyone's still using facemasks, but that's about it. Even theatres, stadiums, etc. have opened with little to no restrictions. azuarc - Good friend, VGM lover, Guru Champion. I pass my baton on to you! |

pjbasis posted... By this point the Wii was basically dying. Switch is still relevant so it should be the most successful eventually. I mean, yeah. I was speaking more in terms of sales (the Wii's novelty died rather quickly after the first few hits were released), so I'd say the Switch is already paving its way as one of Nintendo's most successful and acclaimed consoles ever. And that's taking into account that it still has big and unaddressed issues. azuarc - Good friend, VGM lover, Guru Champion. I pass my baton on to you! |
