Gamespot is doing a mini Best Mobile Game tournament

the highlight so far is that Snake is doubling Hearthstone

meaning it would be worth 14.50% on OoT if Hearthstone is as weak there as it is here

Snake could've potentially won a round in GotD2 though if it had replaced Hearthstone since it's got approximately the same percentage as Divinity: Original Sin II

BTW, didn't someone make Xstats for the GotD2 contest? They don't seem to be linked anywhere in the opening post.

I did make them. I'm not sure if I've still got them saved anywhere on my laptop, but if not, I'm sure they can be found in the stats archives.

you're dreaming if you think it stands a chance in the GotY poll (though LFF will likely hurt it there)

Arceus has no chance. It's just like Snap or Explorers of Sky where people might sing its praises but they're just a vocal minority at the end of the day.

Modern Pokemon isn't that strong to begin with. Pokemon's strength is all about RBY and to a lesser extent GSC.

If Sun/Moon couldn't beat FFXV, I sure wouldn't expect Arceus to beat Xenoblade 3.

I don't think it's like those games, since it was a massive hit saleswise (think it sold over 10x as much as Explorers) and it's actually done well in the polls here so far (equaling Horizon isn't bad!). I wouldn't be surprised if it were strong than Sun/Moon or Sword/Shield.

I was thinking 1v1 but it could be ultra weak.

Based on how well even XB2 did in GotD2, I'd feel pretty confident about that.

Yeesh, just checked cause I forgot xb2 was even that, maybe those western games sucked!

If we wanted to be mean, we'd point out that FFXV is closer to The Outer Worlds than it is to Dragon Quest XI.

Xenoblade 2 is expected to get 61.12% on FFXV in the GotD2 X-Stats

even if you account for the Witcher 3 rally in the final, it's still a pretty handy victory for XB2

Everything means everything.

The only reason FFXV has any "strength" at all is because it's the most recent mainline FF, not to mention the only non-MMO mainline FF of its generation.

XB3 would crush it. Hell, the only debatable Xeno vs. FFXV match would involve XCX (the Wii U exclusive).

I'd take it over Xenosaga 2. Maybe 1 and 3 as well.

Yeah, I think FFXV beats 2 and 3 because the former was disappointing and the latter virtually nobody played. Xenosaga 1 vs FFXV is probably close, but I can't picture Xenosaga 1 beating Hollow Knight.

yeah I have no confidence in Xenosaga being worth anything, the popularity of KOS-MOS is a lot more about design than the popularity of Xenosaga

I love Xenosaga but it's safe to say that all of the games would get steamrolled by most things, including bigger indies. 1 was polarizing, 2 is 2, and not a lot of people got to 3.

I feel Xenosaga might do okay due to Xenoblade's success, not that I'd consider it strong at all. I'd probably check out a rerelease of the trilogy.

I don't think the overlap between Xenosaga and Xenoblade is all that high, or at the very least, I don't think people who started with Xenoblade went back and played Xenosaga (mostly because they're largely inaccessible today).

I did, though I did it back in 2012 when I found the whole Xenosaga trilogy for $41. It's harder nowadays since Xenosaga 3 is so expensive.

I think Xenosaga 1 could compete with FF15/Hollow Knight. It has by far the largest playrate of that trilogy, and older JRPGs have a lot of nostalgia around here. That's more because FF15/Hollow Knight are very weak though.

Not to be that guy, but I don't think Xenosaga beats any FF outside of the true garbage.

There is an unbelievable overlap between those two fanbases and FF wins no matter how far it's fallen on here. The only main line games I would take Xenosaga over are 2, 3, maybe 5, and 11. All of the rest would annihilate it.

I'd give Xenosaga just a bit more credit than Ulti does, but not by much. I'd have to think about Xenosaga 1 vs FF15, especially as Xenosaga has probably slipped into nostalgia territory at this point for those who enjoyed it. Do I go with the big name series modern entrant that few are actually passionate about, or the cult classic from the PS2 generation that is only a few years removed from 1998, THE year of gaming for this site's aging userbase?

I'd probably pick FFXV without much confidence.

Hollow Knight would easily beat both FFXV and Xenosaga 1 today. I don’t think that game is getting any weaker, in fact the opposite.

On the other hand, I’m curious about how much weaker FFXV has gotten. It went from the #1 game of 2016 when it came out to roughly #4 in 2020 (behind Doom, Dark Souls III and Uncharted 4), how much further can it fall? Would Sun & Moon win a rematch? Would Stardew Valley squeak an upset?

Edit: Actually looking at it again Stardew Valley might have beaten FFXV even back then, as I’m not sure FFXV would get 35% on SMG2.

No because Sun & Moon are just as reviled by their own fanbase. For the record, I like FFXV but I accept that it has very many flaws.

I liked Sun & Moon a lot and am still baffled as to why the Pokémon fandom suddenly started hating them a couple of years after release.

Yeah. It is a Pokemon game. The good and the bad was pretty well known from the start. But, somehow the reception seemed to collapse over time anyways. Like when the game came out, people seemed to love the story. A few years later, people say there are too many cutscenes.

It still might beat FF15, though. >_>

Like a recent thing with the Pokemon fanbase is it feels like there is a very, very vocal minority who trashes on the games way harder than the general playerbase. So there's at least a chance Pokemon SM hasn't declined as much as FF15.

The Pokemon fanbase is unfortunately in general pretty awful and tends to make their opinions based on bandwagons.

Pokemon SM's "too many cutscenes" was an issue from the beginning plus some people didn't like the change in formula. It did amplify quite a bit for USUM.

I may take it over FF15 in a rematch though.

It's the Pokemon cycle. Most games' popularity follows a U` shape where they're beloved at first, then hated, then beloved again, and then finally settles down to a more positive-neutral place. Sun/Moon are at the bottom of the U right now like RSE was in Gen 4, DDP were for awhile, XY just was, and the series as a whole was in Gen 3

Random thought that crossed my mind today, is Lady D from RE: Village capable of winning a contest? I'd imagine she's not worth much normally but add the memes and...maybe she's capable of some shenanigans?

I can't see it personally but anyone that gets the internets backing is gonna win a contest these days.

Even something like would have to happen very soon after RE8's release.
