To figure out a character's extrapolated percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB

Wow a Symphonia playrate poll, a first

Everyone who played the PS2 version and beyond first: go back and play the GameCube version. The extra content isn't worth the worse graphics, worse performance, missing voice lines, crunched FOV in most areas, removal of fun glitches, etc

just don't buy Metal Spheres from that one House of Guidance (if you're playing on unoriginal hardware, you can also disable that blur around the edge of the screen and give Raine two darkness techs)

Were the graphics worse? I know the frame rate gets capped at 30.

The overworld icons for towns/areas are simpler and textures are worse. Some battle effects look simpler or otherwise less flashy too, though not all (maybe just a problem with the lower framerate messing with visuals? Lloyd's sword swing effects are the ones that are most noticeable to me). Curiously, Raine's model is an upgrade over the GameCube version. Her face is sharper and more expressive in comparison.

Now that I think about it, the GameCube has different instrumentation for songs, too (Beat the Angel is the most noticeable to my ear). I don't think anybody will notice outside of direct comparisons or being too obsessed with the game (like me >__>), however.

Man the contests were a staple on this site...Too bad they are gone.

Pretty rough round 1 match.

Ganondorf was actually projected to get 60% by the X-Stats, so that was technically an underperformance. However, he probably boosted due to TP hype and it was able to obscure what happened to Magus in 2003.

Shenmue III kinda came and went. I believe it doesn't actually wrap things up? The series went silent for another 5 years so maybe it's really the end this time.

Poor Ryo. Not sure there's another character whose contest resume is 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2018.

From what I saw you land 0 hits and the main bad guy gets away effortlessly again so nothing is resolved or addressed. Plus the complete lack of meaningful gameplay evolution. It's better off being dead if that's how the series is going to go, tbh.

Yeah, I think I called that "old school SFF" at the time because Luigi essentially negates all of Pac-Man's ability to get votes based on widespread recognition. We'd see Pac-Man upset Revolver Ocelot the next year and then get similarly throttled by Yoshi the next round.

Actually, Pac-Man has had bad luck getting stuck against Mario characters because he had to face Mario himself in 2007 and looked so bad that he nearly lost to Wander.

boy do I have some shocking news for you a year from now when we get to our SC2K5 retrospective!

2006 Peach is probably the correct answer though. I don't think she beats 2004 Magus, although she might beat him now.

Peach outperformed Yuna and Kefka on Alucard. It definitely would have felt like Magus' match to lose that year where everything about to appear in Smash looked good.

Was Guybrush the weakest character who just wouldn't go away?

I definitely get the feeling he was. I think he also got pretty good nomination support so he wasn't just getting bottom seeds.

I do wonder what the bracket looks like if CJayC doesn't put a company cap on it.

If you weren't here back then, CJayC deliberately limited Nintendo and Square to no more than ten characters (if you're counting and you think, "wait there's 11 Square characters," that's because Sora is Disney) and set up a bunch of SFF matches on purpose in an attempt to diversify the bracket a bit.

Of course, I doubt CJayC understood SFF at the time. We were still figuring it out ourselves, but I think we knew enough to know this bracket was a mistake. And it played out that way.

On the flipside, what would a 2018 bracket look like with a company cap

Cap would have to increase with bracket size right, so 20 instead of 10. Nintendo has got to have the most.

I am not sure it would really be that big a deal actually, if 20 of course, though it would be worse, we would see a lot of fodder. Ironically if it's still 10 it's pretty close to the 04 contest and no Pokémon get in even that year.

It definitely feels like massive blowouts got harder to come by as the years went on. The Noble Nine seemed to fall relative to the rest of the field (or the rest of the field rose, whichever), for whatever the reason.
