Even though Xenoblade had clearly outshined Three Houses so far, people were reluctant to project a big win, as the Oracle average was 54.50% here. The match was actually 50/50 for the first ten minutes, but then Xenoblade jumped up to nearly 55% on the very next update and it just kept going up from there.

I think it's far more likely that FE7 flat out wins by as much as FFTA did in their first match, than FFTA being able to beat FE7 at all.

What proof do we have of this.

There is no reason to believe FFTA doesn't suck now. It had every advantage in that match.

I'm a FFTA defender, but I think it would face an uphill battle to win that match.

Fire Emblem got 40% on KOTOR in 2010, so it's probably a fair bit stronger than the 2004 match would imply, regardless of what has happened to FFTA in the meantime. FFTA wouldn't have to drop by that much for Fire Emblem to take advantage.

We haven't seen any Tactics Advance games in any poll since the 2004 Games Contest, but I'd bet it's pretty weak nowadays. Back then, it was still a new game, Final Fantasy was the dominant power on this site, and Fire Emblem was a relative unknown.

I'll be honest: I don't take this result at 100% face value because it makes Galaxy 2 (of losing to Mass Effect 1 fame) look too good. Don't get me wrong. Galaxy 2 is one of my favorite games ever, and I'd love for it to be as strong as it appeared here. I just think there's only so badly a game like Witcher 3 can beat a mainline Mario game like Galaxy 2.

Not much to say about this one. GoW won without too much trouble, although it did underperform its Oracle average by a little bit. Next round was basically a forgone conclusion at this point, especially with this showing.

I'm not sure it's 40% on Witcher 3 fine.

Mass Effect 1 also got 46% on Portal.

Would you expect Portal to do any worse than Galaxy 2 did on Witcher 3, because that's what thinking Galaxy 2 significantly overperformed here implies.

That said, all of Geralt's run (and this contest's final when we get to it!) point to Witcher 3 being the modern 'There's only so good it can do against anything with a pulse, but also it can't get blown out' entry.

Well, I think it's a "western stuff vs. Nintendo" issue. I think MK8 and HG/SS are overrated for the purposes of this contest, too.

I also think Nintendo in general benefits from the forced voting format so they get a lot of "default/apathy" votes, whatever you want to call it. If you care more about the other match but you have to vote in the match featuring a Nintendo thing vs. a non-Nintendo thing, I think the average voter will default to Nintendo on this site.

The last point I don't think is the case against something like Witcher 3.

Also Galaxy 2 being better in 2020 than 2015 isn't weird considering general opinion of Nintendo those two teams combined.

Another solid showing for Persona 5. I feel like we had a pretty good read on its strength in this contest because it essentially met expectations (or came pretty close) in every round.

This was one of the more debated third round matches. Portal 2 was the favorite, and it won without too much trouble. It had 56% at the freeze, and RDR2 never made a serious run at it.

Randomly checked the poll it was "Can you touch your nose with your tongue?" So i vote and then all of a sudden i'm the first vote on a Smash poll. Refreshed and i apparently have chosen Jigglypuff.

He is absurdly popular in the original and sold a bunch of copies by himself. Smash wasn’t sold because of itself until Melee.

This was the only match in this contest that was a rematch from 2015 Games. Dark Souls won in an upset back then, but it was no surprise when it won by considerably more this time.

This match basically went exactly as the 2015 X-Stats said it would. This was actually bad news for The Last of Us because it looked to be the same strength, while Dark Souls was clearly stronger. In other bad news, this match took place the day before the TLOU2 plot leaks.

I played like an hour of Bloodborne (because it was free on PS+ one month) and very quickly realized this is not for me

I'm not really into the horror genre in general, so yeah, no RE for me either

Hey, everyone thinks Soulslikes are "not for them" the first time they play. I thought Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were pretty weird the first time I played them. It doesn't help that From Software games are badly tutorialized, and very intimidating to new players.

I know you'll probably disregard this post, but Elden Ring's a bit more newbie-friendly, as you can explore the world and don't have to focus on combat so much. Lies of P is also a pretty good Soulslike that's better at teaching its mechanics than the From Software titles.

I 100% believe you when you say you bounced off of Bloodborne, but I also understand that once you get past the mental wall, you'll see why they're so beloved!

I think Leon should give the RE games a try. (I don't know what you don't like about horror. You play violent/gory games occasionally? They're not really scary, not like Silent Hill. At least try RE4!)

I play games that have some violence in them sometimes, yeah. I just don't prefer it as a selling point. Scary stuff doesn't do it for me either.

Unless it's cartoonish like Mortal Kombat, I guess, but I haven't actually played one since MK4!

Just think of it as Uncharted with zombies man. RE4 anyway.

I'm also not one for "scary/horror" games. That said, the only RE game I've played is RE4, which has some horror elements but its much more about thrills than jump scares. If you like action games, you'll like RE4.
